'80s Star Turned Sex And The City Icon Kim Cattrall Keeps Getting Better With Age
You may recognize Kim Cattrall as the assertive, sex-positive PR agent Samantha Jones from "Sex and the City," but Cattrall had been an entertainment industry mainstay for decades prior to her role on the acclaimed HBO series. Before Cattrall contributed some of the most iconic "Sex and the City" looks to the zeitgeist, she was appearing in cult-classic TV shows and films throughout the 1970s and '80s. The English-born actor utilized her classical training in the dramatic arts to the absolute fullest during the first three decades of her career, starring in at least one project every year from her 1975 breakout role in "Rosebud" until 2020.
In addition to her immense talent, Cattrall's beauty made her a standout figure even in her most minor roles. In the early to mid 1980s, Cattrall rocked her natural brunette locks. The dark hair enhanced her striking features. The star first dyed her hair blond in the latter half of the decade, which proved to be her most iconic (and long-lasting) style. Although she periodically returned to brunette throughout the early '90s, she decided to stick with lighter hair for good around 1997. In one photoshoot from 1987, Cattrall showcased her versatility in a casual portrait. Even with minimal makeup, messy hair, and a plain white tank top, Cattrall looked glamorous. At age 70, she is still working in the industry and looking absolutely stunning while doing so. At the 2024 Tribeca Festival, Cattrall kept her makeup minimal; her complexion has the same healthy glow it did when she was a young up-and-comer. Cattrall is still rocking her now-iconic blond hair and fabulous skin, and has proven with her amazing outfits that her style improves, rather than fades, with age.
Kim Cattrall's beauty routine embraces a less is more philosophy
When Kim Cattrall made her highly-anticipated return to the "Sex and the City" franchise at the end of the second season of the series "And Just Like That" in 2023, fans were overjoyed at Samantha Jones' brief cameo. Online, many gushed over the former '80s star's gorgeous appearance. As her makeup artist Kyra Panchenko revealed on Instagram at the time, Kim Cattrall's favorite face mask that helped her glow on-screen was none other than the Joanna Vargas Twilight Face Mask. Cattrall is not a gatekeeper when it comes to her beauty routine. In a 2025 interview with People, Cattrall revealed the ins and outs of her streamlined regimen. Sunscreen and plenty of moisturizer is her minimalist approach to skincare, as well as occasional botox and filler meant to touch up her appearance without changing her face fundamentally (thus avoiding showing the signs of getting too much botox), as she explained to The Sunday Times in 2023.
Her guiding beauty philosophy? Less is more, especially when it comes to her approach to makeup. "I don't want to start wearing a lot of makeup. I never really have. I do on screen of course, but that's a conceit. But for real life, I don't want to ever not look in the mirror and see me," Cattrall told People. The actor went on to explain that when she was starting out in the entertainment world in the 1980s, makeup trends were the opposite of her personal preference. "I'm so glad I don't live in those times or at this age want to wear that same look. I want to feel my skin being able to breathe and protect it and support it," Cattrall shared.
