The Netflix reboot of "Little House On The Prairie" hit screens in July 2026. Naturally, it's gotten us all thinking about the O.G. 1970s show, as well as comparing the 2026 vs. 1970 pics of "Little House on the Prairie" casts. One star of the '70s hit that we've kept a particular eye on over the years is actor Karen Grassle, known for playing Caroline Ingalls back then. Grassle's character often dressed modestly to reflect early frontier life in the 1800s, wearing simple bonnets, long skirts, and button-down shirts. You might be surprised to learn just how different Grassle looked outside of her work on the show in the '70s.

In real life, Grassle's style more closely reflected the free-spirited nature of '70s fashion. The above photo of her was taken at her home in 1975. Needless to say, she looks pretty different! As you can see, she's sporting a much more casual tank top, a button-down shirt, and flared jeans. Her hair, normally pulled back on the show, was also down and wavy. We always thought the actor was gorgeous on the show, but we love this down-to-earth look even more for her. If you're curious about what the rest of the cast of the original show is up to, here's what the leading ladies of "Little House On The Prairie" look like now.

Karen Grassle's off-screen style was polished and quintessentially '70s

There are so many great '70s "Little House On The Prairie" costumes that will never be seen again, but Karen Grassle's real-life style during that decade is still worth shouting about. The actor looked so polished in these lesser-known photos taken at her home in 1975. In the above photo, she's pictured with her dog wearing a white two-piece vest and pants set that was so quintessentially '70s. We can't get enough of it. The flared pants and collared vests of the time really suited the actor. The unique lace-up feature in front of the vest also paired beautifully with her button-down shirt. She topped the whole look off with some casual flip-flops that look comfortable, but don't lean too beachy or inappropriate for the outfit.

While Grassle had to dress modestly on "Little House" a lot, this all-white look brings to mind one of her chicest style moments on the show too. Grassle's gorgeous white dress and parasol on season two episode "At the End of the Rainbow" were stunning, proving Grassle could pull off a good white ensemble both on- and off-screen.
