Teri Hatcher's Response To Aging In Hollywood Is A Wake-Up Call For Women Everywhere: 'I'm Not Done'

Teri Hatcher, star of the '90s series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" and the 2000s hit "Desperate Housewives," has opened up about the struggles of aging in Hollywood. The actor, who turned 61 in December 2025, acknowledged that roles are often given to younger female actors, but that doesn't mean Hatcher has given up on projects. In fact, the star's approach to changing the industry is inspiring.

"There's plenty of women over 50 and 60 who are doing some incredible work in television and I feel like I'm not done with that part of my story," she told Hello! in 2026 ahead of her turn as the iconic Miranda Priestly in "The Devil Wears Prada" musical in London, England. "I've never been a person who thinks of herself as a victim. I think: 'If you don't really want to hire people who are 60, then I'm just going to have to find a really great story that has a 60-year-old in it and I'm going to write it myself.' I'm just not a person who gives up," she added. 

Speaking of her upcoming projects, Hatcher gushed about her role in the musical adaptation. "I've been fortunate enough to play some pretty formidable women throughout my career, but very few can compare to the Miranda Priestly," the Hollywood star shared in a statement (via People). Hatcher admitted to Hello! that the timing was perfect. "I've experienced and grown so much, and I get to bring all of that into my 'Devil Wears Prada' performance," she shared. Hatcher has always been one to embrace aging, but for the star, that never meant slowing down. And looks-wise, she is undeniably among the boomer actors who have aged like fine wine.

As someone who has been in the entertainment industry since the '80s, Teri Hatcher has plenty to share. Speaking to People in 2019, the actor opened up about getting older. "Aging is not for the faint of heart, especially in Hollywood," she said, hinting at the double standard women often see in the industry, as their male counterparts tend to have blossoming careers regardless of age. "I've raised my daughter [Emerson], I've had hit shows, I've won awards," she added, saying, "And I don't have to look at my career the same way. It's liberating to take care of yourself and it's liberating to care about the things that are important to you."

That year, Hatcher turned 55, and on Instagram she wrote about how age brought her confidence and comfort. "Age allows you to be clear on your purpose and cherish who and what you are grateful for. You have enough age to see the miracle of life and enough youth to revel in that knowledge," the "Desperate Housewives" star captioned her post, adding, "You can be vulnerable and strong at the same time. You can forgive others and yourself. You are willing to put in the effort to reach a goal ... or not. And that's okay." And looking back at her 50s, Hatcher definitely lived a fabulous decade, becoming more and more authentic with the years.
