Lady Gaga's Baby Girl Has A Classic Name That Hollywood Moms Love To Use

From her history-making meat dress to having her scalp tattooed live on stage, Lady Gaga has always been one for surprising her fans. But Mother Monster shocked even the most jaded of her Little Monsters in September 2026, when it was revealed that she had welcomed a baby with fiance Michael Polansky. TMZ has since confirmed that the baby girl, who was born at LA's Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on June 9, is named Rose Bean Polansky.

The classic name Rose, which has both Latin and German roots, has ebbed and flowed in popularity over the years, beginning as a mainstay in the first half of the 20th century. It has been particularly in-demand since the late noughties, perhaps because it's a favorite among celebrity parents. More often than not, A-listers gravitate toward this traditional moniker as a middle or hyphenated first name, as was the case with Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, who was born in May 1999. Action hero Sylvester Stallone used the name for all three of his daughters: Sophia Rose, born in 1996, Sistine Rose, born in 1998, and Scarlet Rose, born in 2002.

Still popular heading into the next decade, Rose was also used for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's first daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban, who's totally transformed since she was born in July 2008. The next year, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck called their second daughter Seraphina Rose Elizabeth. In 2014, Kelly Clarkson welcomed daughter River Rose, while Rachel Bilson had daughter Briar Rose. Rihanna broke the mold in 2023 when she used Rose as a middle name for her son Riot, and so did Rebel Wilson in May 2026, calling her daughter Rose Estelle. Clearly, Lady Gaga is in good company with this vintage name that still feels fresh in 2026! 

Neither Lady Gaga nor Michael Polansky have publicly commented on the thought process behind the name Rose, but fans have already connected a few dots. Gaga's maternal grandmother was Veronica Rose "Ronnie" Ferrie Bissett, so the name may come from there. It's also possible that the name is a tribute to the song "La Vie En Rose," which Gaga covered in the 2018 film "A Star Is Born." She later had a rose tattooed down her back to pay homage to the song, but she already had a rose tattooed on her left side in 2008, which she went with to cover up an old tattoo that she no longer wanted. Back in 2015, the "Poker Face" singer also posted some snaps to Facebook from her rose garden, gushing about how it was her happy place: "Gardening in my home. This is my happy time with my roses." Fast-forward to 2018, and Gaga wore an outfit with white roses to the Grammys as a show of support for the Times Up and #MeToo movements. 

Meanwhile, Bean is more of a mystery, but TMZ theorizes that it's a possible nod to the singer and activist Carl Bean. Notably, Gaga was inspired by Bean's 1977 song "I Was Born This Way" when creating her 2011 "Born This Way" record.

Wherever the exact inspiration behind the baby name lies, the Little Monsters have given their approval, and this isn't a celebrity baby name getting too much hate. "Bean is a cute middle name," one fan wrote on Reddit. "I can see it being a nickname. Rose is a beautiful name. Congrats to them!" Others fans drew comparisons between Rose Bean and Frances Bean, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.
