"The Summer I Turned Pretty" star Lola Tung has evolved her look since her entry into the acting world in 2022. Tung is known for her stunning dark-brown hair now, so it may come as a surprise that her natural color is actually red. Lola Tung's real-life outfits may be much bolder than her "TSITP" character's toned-down look, but her naturally red hair channels girl-next-door vibes just as well as Belly Conklin's wardrobe.

On "TSITP," Tung's cool-toned brownish copper locks were a fan-favorite, not to mention her most recognizable feature. But before her rise to fame, Tung's long auburn hair was lighter than in the series. However, in late 2025, she switched up her look with an edgier dark brown.

Tung may be embracing a brunette vibe today, but she's actually one of the red-haired celebs who will make you want to try the flaming-hot look for yourself. In addition to achieving her natural color with a little hair dye, you can also replicate the star's 'do with a few simple styling techniques.

Lola Tung's hairstylist has shared what she does to achieve the star's signature look

Lola Tung may be known for her stunningly long locks, but she tends to keep her hair secrets under lock and key. (If you're considering dyeing your hair red after seeing Tung's stunning natural hair color, knowing your skin undertone is essential when choosing a copper hair color). While Tung has shared her beauty tips for makeup and skincare, she has not yet divulged her hair advice to the public. However, her hairstylist Dana Boyer explained to Nylon in 2025 how she achieved the young star's beach waves for a "The Summer I Turned Pretty" Season 3 launch event. Though Boyer has created a multitude of hair looks for the actor over the years, including polished updos and chic body waves, Tung's intentionally messy look is one of the best.

To create Tung's look for the "TSITP" launch event, Boyer used the Divi 3-in-1 Leave-in Conditioner on dampened hair. Then, as Nylon reports, she applied the brand's Strand Plumping Styling Cream to the roots of Tung's hair for volume, diffusing the crown of her head with a blow-dryer to create the tousled look. Boyer used the Air Dry Cream on the still-damp lengths of Tung's hair, allowing it to air dry (though she used a curling iron on small sections to create more defined waves). Boyer finished the look with Dry Shampoo to add even more texture and volume to Tung's hair.

If you're looking to create a messy-chic look like Tung's, try following Boyer's technique. Even if you don't have a naturally auburn color (or her current moody chocolate brown), beach waves are almost universally flattering and can be altered for any occasion.
