Baby name trends come and go, but if there's one mainstay that's been consistent over the years, it's flower names. Especially for little girls, these botanical monikers often feel classic and retro at the same time, carrying years of history while also still sounding fresh. Whether you're looking for a vintage baby name that you can make feel fresh in 2026 or something a little less common, there's a long list of flower-inspired baby names to choose from, and a good strategy for navigating that list can be to go for those names that celebrities love, too.

"We all know that being close to nature provides a well needed feel-good factor and one lovely way of staying connected is to use names from nature for our children," garden designer Sarah Croud told Good to Know in 2023. "Using flower names, in particular, can transport us to a past place or invoke a memory related to the smells or colours associated with our favourite flowers or beautiful blooms." Several A-listers seem to agree with this logic, since floral names have popped up in the headlines frequently over the years. From Spice Girl Geri Halliwell to actor Emily Blunt to superstar Beyoncé, botanical-inspired name choices remain a popular move.

There's a lot of variation among floral names: You might prefer something that sounds vintage and feminine, like Iris, or you might be looking for something trendier and bouncier, like Daisy. Also, don't be afraid to think outside the box when choosing a name, since it doesn't have to just refer to the flower itself. As the stars have shown us, general flower terms like Blossom, and flowering plants like Sage, can also be fair game. If you're stuck for a name, let one of the following nature-coded monikers inspire you!

Daisy and Poppy and the bubbliest celeb-approved floral baby names

Flower-inspired names are usually pretty and feminine, but they can also be bubbly. One of the most common celebrity baby names that fits into this category is Daisy, whose namesake flower is often associated with new beginnings and true love. A recent A-lister to choose this moniker for their bundle of joy is Katy Perry, who leaned into the nature-themed energy by giving her daughter the middle name Dove after welcoming her in 2020. And of course, Perry paid tribute to her baby with her record "Daisies," not to mention the fact that she donned a daisy flower decal on her nail in the first Instagram photo that she shared of her hand on Daisy's.

Then there's Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, whose daughter Daisy Josephine was born in October 2016. "We have an awesome cousin — Liv's cousin by birth, mine by association — named Daisy, and it's a great name," Sudeikis explained on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." "So when she suggested Daisy, I was like, 'Daisy Sudeikis, that's great.'"

The biggest celebrity lover of flower names, though, is Jamie Oliver, who welcomed second daughter Daisy in 2003. She has three younger siblings, Petal, Buddy, and River, and one older sibling, Poppy. And if you like the sound of Daisy, Poppy is a similarly bouncy name. In 2015, Jenna Bush Hager welcomed daughter Poppy Louise Hager with husband Henry, and the history behind the name choice is pretty cute. It was the nickname of her grandfather, former U.S. president George H.W. Bush, and she told "Today" co-host Hoda Kotb that when she heard the story of him standing up for a Jewish friend who faced antisemitism at boarding school, she knew she wanted to name her daughter after him.

For something vintage-sounding, consider Violet or Iris

People have been turning to flowers for name inspiration for centuries, so naturally, many of these monikers have a vintage feel. Some have been less popular than others over the years, and are only just coming back to the fore now, lending them an especially retro vibe. Violet was one of the most popular names of 2025, according to The Bump,  but it hasn't been this in-demand since the early 20th century. After peaking in the 1910s and 1920s, it majorly declined, reaching an all-time low in 1990. Jennifer Garner loves this name, giving it to her first child in 2005. It was still quite dated at the time, but Garner's grandmother inspired the choice. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are also fans, calling their second daughter Violet in 2016.

Violet can also work as a middle name, even with a non-floral first name. In October 2018, Hilary Duff named her first daughter, and first child with husband Matthew Koma, Banks Violet Bair. During a March 2026 episode of Jay Shetty's "On Purpose" podcast, Duff revealed that she didn't want traditional first names for her children, but she did want less unusual middle names, so the kids could have some flexibility with how they wanted to be referred to as they got older.

Similar to Violet, Iris is a vintage-sounding and very pretty baby name that has Hollywood's tick of approval. In June 2016, Eddie Redmayne welcomed his daughter Iris Mary, more than a decade and a half after Jude Law and Sadie Frost named their daughter Iris Tallulah Elizabeth in 2000. There's also Iris Apatow, daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann, who was born in 2002. More recently, Alaia Baldwin welcomed daughter Iris Elle Aronow in 2020.

Some stars have gone with less common flower names for their babies

When one imagines flower names, a few tried and tested favorites come to mind. Whether they're currently popular or not, there are the usual suspects, many of them included in this list. But going for a flower name doesn't have to be predictable. Some names that fit into this category are much more unexpected, either because they haven't been widely used in a long time (if at all), or because people don't even know that they're flower names. A good example is Zahara, famously given to Angelina Jolie's daughter. A name with Arabic, Swahili, and Hebrew roots, it has a few different meanings, but in Swahili particularly, it means "flower" or "flowering." Fans of this moniker might not even realize that the Zahara flower is actually a type of zinnia, which is part of the daisy family. Zahara Jolie is all grown up now, but this is still one of our favorite baby names.

British actor Scarlett Hefner, who rose to fame portraying Pansy Parkinson (another flower name!) in the "Harry Potter" films, also gave some less common floral names to her twin daughters when she welcomed them in March 2022: Marigold and Blossom. While the marigold flower symbolizes joy thanks to its vibrant yellow-orange color, blossom is a more general term that describes any small flower appearing on a plant or tree. Cardi B also welcomed daughter Blossom Belle Cephus in September 2024.

Another floral name that you might not have considered is Bluebell, famously used by Spice Girls band member Geri Halliwell, otherwise known as Ginger Spice. Her daughter was born Bluebell Madonna Halliwell in May 2006. Andie MacDowell's daughter Rainey also welcomed her own daughter in December 2024 and called her Bluebell.

Celebs know that flowering botanicals make for the cutest baby names

The world of flower-inspired baby names is wide and far-reaching, so if you don't like standard flower names, you can also consider other botanicals. There are plenty of plants and trees that also have their own blossoms, making for some of the cutest baby names out there. Beyoncé made headlines in 2012 when she welcomed daughter Blue Ivy, and fans got busy trying to establish where the unusual moniker came from. The "Formation" hitmaker later shared video footage that showed her on the Croatian island of Hvar while pregnant, admiring a tree that was covered with blue ivy.

In a similar light, Pink welcomed a daughter called Willow Sage Hart in 2011. Willow trees indeed have flowers, though these catkins tend to be conical and fuzzy, so it's not the first choice you think of when you imagine floral names. Meanwhile, sage plants also have flowers, and these are equally unique-looking thanks to their tubular shape. "The willow is my favorite tree," Pink told People in 2011 (via Digital Spy). "I grew up near one. It's the most flexible tree in nature and nothing can break it ... I love that sentiment. I want that for her." She added, "Sage is cleansing and sacred."

Another flowering plant that's speedily growing in popularity as a baby name is Hazel, notably used by Julia Roberts when she welcomed twins Hazel and Phinnaeus in March 2004. More recently, Emily Blunt called her first daughter Hazel in 2014, before continuing the botanical theme with Violet.

Rose is adored by celebrities of every generation

Classic, eternal, and forever popular in Hollywood, Rose is the ultimate floral baby name. While it was en vogue in the 19th and early 20th centuries, it began to fall out of favor around the 1950s. Data from The Bump shows that it briefly peaked in popularity around the turn of the millennium, possibly in response to the main character of one of the era's biggest movies (1997's "Titanic") being called Rose. But it didn't start a steady upwards trajectory until the dawn of the 2010s. However, A-listers never gave up on this classic: Sylvester Stallone used Rose as a middle name for three of his daughters, born in 1996, 1998, and 2002 respectively. Meanwhile, Lily-Rose Depp was born to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis in May 1999 (Lily is another classic baby name to consider!).

A new generation of stars seemed to love Rose, too, whether as a first or middle name. In May 2012, Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky announced the arrival of their first daughter, India Rose. "The O.C." alum Rachel Bilson named her daughter Briar Rose in 2014, while Kelly Clarkson welcomed her daughter River Rose the same year. Though Rose is traditionally a girls' name, Rihanna flipped the script in August 2023 when she welcomed her second son with A$AP Rocky and called him Riot Rose — apparently at the suggestion of Pharrell Williams, who believed they were having a girl (via Harper's Bazaar).

In May 2026, Rebel Wilson announced the birth of her second daughter Rose Estelle, and just a few months later, Lady Gaga quietly welcomed her first child with fiancé Michael Polansky: Rose Bean Polansky. Clearly, this is a baby girl name that Hollywood moms love to use!
