Details About Anna Kournikova's Rumored Romance Before Long-Term Relationship With Enrique Iglesias
Before finding love with Enrique Iglesias, Anna Kournikova was involved in a sports love triangle. Anna Kournikova, who's had a gorgeous transformation over the years, had two high-profile romances in the early '00s with NHL players Sergei Fedorov and Pavel Bure. Fedorov had supposedly proposed to the then-18-year-old Kournikova in the summer of 1999, months before Bure was allegedly seen proposing to her at a Miami restaurant in early 2000. While Kournikova and Bure gave cryptic responses to press inquiries into their engagement, she did deny it on her website, writing, "I never said I was engaged or was planning to get married, because I have no such plans" (via CBS News). Bure shared a similar sentiment, and was quoted as saying, "A wedding isn't entering into my plans just yet."
As for Fedorov, by 2001, there were rumors that he and Kournikova were actually married. Their parents even got involved, with his mother, Natalya, telling The Sun, "I am very happy to be Anna's mother-in-law" (via ABC News). Kournikova's father, however, denied it, and quite frankly seemed fed up with the love triangle. "I am sick and tired with the calls about her marriage. Last year it was [Pavel] Bure, now it's Fedorov," Sergei Kournikov told Reuters in 2001 (via ABC News). While Kournikova's representative denied the marriage, in 2003 Fedorov was still claiming that they'd wed but had gotten divorced. Regardless of whatever happened with either hockey player then, Kournikova did find love in the early 2000s, but with a certain Latin singer instead.
Anna Kournikova keeps her relationship private, but shares glimpses into her family life
Anna Kournikova may have previously been in a public love triangle with two hockey players, but it's her private romance with Enrique Iglesias that's lasted. The couple has been together since meeting in 2001 when Kournikova played Iglesias' love interest in the music video for his song "Escape." "When we met ... we kind of got each other. We just started connecting little by little and got stronger and stronger," Iglesias told People in 2023.
While they made their red carpet debut at the 2002 VMAs, they've rarely made public appearances together since. (We do have some sweet pics of Kournikova and Iglesias throughout their relationship though!). Despite rumors of engagements and secret weddings, Kournikova told People in 2008, "I'm never getting married," and reiterated that to Women's Health in 2011, saying, "I'm in a happy relationship — that's all that matters" (via People). However, on Instagram her name appears as "Anna Kournikova Iglesias."
Despite keeping their romance private, Kournikova has given glimpses inside her lavish life with Iglesias and their four children. In 2022, she shared a family photo for Iglesias' birthday calling him "the most amazing Dad" and writing, "We super love you!!!" In 2024, she shared another photo, calling him "my man." So, while Kournikova's past romances remain a bit of a mystery, and she's rarely spotted out with Iglesias, she's apparently happy to share some of her love life on her own terms.
