The Leading Ladies Of Dawson's Creek Are Aging Like Fine Wine
For most Millennials, all it takes is a few notes from Paula Cole's "I Don't Want to Wait" to automatically bring them back to their high school years and the hit teenage television drama series that defined them. "Dawson's Creek," which ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2003, had teens on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happened next in the epic love triangle between Joey Potter, Dawson Leery, and Pacey Witter. Don't forget Jen Lindley, the blond bombshell who shook everything up the moment her taxi arrived in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts. Where are the series' stars now?
"Dawson's Creek" launched the careers of actors Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams. But the leading ladies of the series stole the show with their witty banter, sarcastic one-liners, and Y2K fashions. More than 20 years later, the ladies of "Dawson's Creek" continue turning heads with their gorgeous red-carpet appearances, proving that age is just a number. Find out what your favorite women from "Dawson's Creek" look like now, and how they maintain their youthful looks.
Katie Holmes went from 'girl next door' to stylish and sophisticated
Joey Potter, played by actor Katie Holmes, was the classic 'girl next door,' caught in the middle of a love triangle between her childhood best friends, Dawson Leery and Pacey Witter. Though we initially tuned in just for the drama of this love triangle, we quickly came to appreciate Joey's Y2K fashions just as much. Her tomboy style was often accompanied by feminine flair, which perfectly depicted this complicated character. For example, Joey was known to pair bootcut jeans with an adorable baby tee or fitted white tank top. From simple crewnecks to cable-knit sweaters and fresh sneakers, Joey's laid-back looks were both comfy and cute.
Though Joey Potter mostly wore her chestnut hair straight down in a middle or side part, Holmes has upgraded her 'girl next door' hairstyle from her days on "Dawson's Creek" to a shoulder-length, often wavy style with subtle highlights. Whether she's making a statement on the red carpet or dressed down in jeans and a T-shirt, Holmes somehow manages to look chic and sophisticated, like when she stepped out in the perfect summer outfit. Holmes told InStyle in May 2026 that she has a "less-is-more approach" when it comes to both her beauty and fashion choices. In fact, Holmes compared herself to men who "don't spend that much time getting ready in the morning" and admitted that her "minimalist" makeup is a result of not feeling confident in a full makeup routine.
Michelle Williams ditched her loose waves for short and chic styles
Jen Lindley, played by actor Michelle Williams, brought a worldly, mature perspective to Capeside when she was sent from New York City by her parents to live with her conservative Christian grandmother for a fresh start. Since Jen and Joey were extremely different personalities on the show, their wardrobes reflected those differences, too. For example, Jen's bolder, grunge-inspired looks included plaid mini skirts, oversized button-downs, slip dresses, and leather jackets. Williams' character's evolution was also seen in her diverse hairstyles, starting with long blond waves and eventually becoming shorter and edgier throughout the six seasons of "Dawson's Creek."
In her life off-camera, Williams continued experimenting with shorter hairstyles, often returning to her signature platinum blond pixie cut. One thing that has remained constant for Williams throughout her post-"Dawson's Creek" years is her flawless skin. According to her longtime makeup artist, Angela Levin, Williams achieves her porcelain skin thanks to her dedication to drinking lots of water, avoiding alcohol, and treating her skin to regular facials. Williams also credits her good skin to her daily scrubbing. "What is one thing that I truly love? I love a good face scrub. I try to do a scrub every day. I'm a big scrubber. I use anything I can get my hands on," she told TODAY in 2018.
Busy Philipps is just as cool as ever
Even though Audrey Liddell only joined the cast of "Dawson's Creek" for the last two seasons, her vibrant personality and extravagant fashion made her one of our favorite leading ladies. Played by actor Busy Philipps, Audrey was Joey's oh-so-cool college roommate. Her bold Y2K and rocker-inspired fashions included low-rise flare jeans, strappy camis, leather jackets, concert tees, and of course, chokers. Though her character experimented with different hairstyles during her two seasons, Philipps has stayed true to her long blond locks, which perfectly fit her California vibes.
Just like her colorful character, Philipps has continued to dress in a bold, expressive way in the two decades since she appeared on the show, and she has truly aged like fine wine. When it comes to maintaining her youthful glow, Philipps credits these healthy habits, "SPF is a huge part of my routine. People are often shocked when I whip my Olay SPF out of my purse and apply it halfway through the day," she told NewBeauty in 2020. "I also drink a lot of water. I think people forget about that element for your skin, so I try to remain very hydrated. I sweat a lot everyday, which I think is healthy for your skin."
Meredith Monroe is aging backward
Andie McPhee, played by actor Meredith Monroe, and her brother Jack became students at Capeside High during season two of "Dawson's Creek." Andie and Pacey hit it off, and what began as a friendship slowly evolved into a relationship for a period of time before her mental health struggles eventually led to the couple calling it quits. Andie's wardrobe evolved from preppy and formal collared shirts and pleated skirts (thanks to her affluent upbringing) to a more casual '90s style, including denim overalls and knit tops. Because Monroe was about 10 years older than both Holmes and Williams, the costuming department often styled her in a more youthful way to blend in with the cast. If you're feeling inspired by the fashions of "Dawson's Creek," check out the Y2K trends making a major comeback in 2026.
Speaking of aging, Monroe appears to be going backward, with her flawless, dewy skin and youthful appearance. On her Instagram, Monroe appears to stay active with plenty of hikes and walks. She also showed fans that she isn't afraid to experiment with different types of treatments to get that gorgeous skin, like the oxygen facial she posted about. In this radiant picture of Monroe, we love the warm shade of her dark blond locks and her sun-kissed glow with a fun pink lip.
Mary-Margaret Humes ages with grace
Gail Leery, played by actor Mary-Margaret Humes, had a rough start to her time on "Dawson's Creek" when she was caught cheating on her husband, Mitch, by Joey. This news devastated her son, Dawson, and the couple went on to divorce before eventually coming back together in later seasons and having a second child together, much to Dawson's surprise. While working as a TV journalist in Capeside, Gail was seen in blazers and collared shirts, though we mostly saw her in classic East-coast suburban mom attire, including cardigans, sweaters, and casual button-downs.
Not much has changed for Humes, more than 20 years later, looking as fresh-faced and beautiful as ever. Even in her 70s, Humes can still pull off her long hairstyle, complete with gorgeous highlights and curtain bangs. She is the epitome of aging with grace in her black high-neck dress with sheer sleeves. We think Humes should definitely be added to this list of famous older women who don't seem to age.
