Sally Field's Stylish Gray Lob Is The Perfect Haircut For Older Women
Sally Field's style has taken a ton of turns over her decades-long career, and the impossibly stylish gray lob she's been rocking lately has completely captured the hearts of fans and beauty aficionados. Give it points for being movie star-approved, but another thing that makes Field's clavicle-grazing haircut so inspo-worthy is that it's firmly on the list of bob styles that look great on older women thanks to its versatility. Plus, we can't help but notice how Sally Field makes the transition to gray hair look stunning and effortless.
Lindsay Worthen, Ogle School expert cosmetologist and beauty education specialist, told Glam exclusively that the lob is a medium-length haircut that will make you look youthful. "Lobs are a great way to rock a classic bob when you want to maintain a little more length," she explained. And it's one of the most timeless and versatile hairstyles. We've seen Field's gray lob take on a piecey feel, styled with upturned ends in a way that really lets the layers sing and offers just the right amount of edge. At other times, she's chosen to rock more of a fluffy blowout-style lob for a softer look with plenty of movement. Leave it to Field to prove the hairstyle's adaptability and agelessness.
Now in her 80s, Sally Field has long ago learned that feeling ashamed of aging is 'a crock'
Sally Field turned 80 years old on Nov. 6, 2026, having nabbed her first acting credit back in the early '60s. An actor being able to boast about a career that has spanned more than six decades is an impossibly rare feat, and Hollywood isn't known for being welcoming to aging women — nor is the rest of the world. To that point, it's also uncommon to find celebrities who proudly show off their gray hair, and so, if you ask us, Field's fabulous gray lob is the most stylish act of rebellion.
"There's a sense in society that you should feel ashamed for being old," she said on a March 2024 episode of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' podcast, Wiser Than Me. "And I realized what a crock that is." In that same conversation, when asked about how she feels about ageism in Hollywood, Field said, "Well, obviously, it's awful." She said interesting and complex roles for older women aren't always easy to come by. Still, she hasn't let that stop her from figuring out her lane all these years later. Field's gray lob was on full display, perfectly complementing her blue sequin gown, at the 2026 Emmys when she won an Outstanding Lead Actress award for Netflix's "Remarkably Bright Creatures."
