The Mind-Bending Twist On A French Mani You'll Be Seeing This Fall

If there's one thing you can count on, it's that new nail trends will always be fun, chic, and unique. Whether you're into classic nail art or something out of the box, you can always trust that there's a new nail trend for you. Like other beauty trends, the current nail trends are all about taking classic styles and giving them a modern remix. Tammy Taylor Nails founder Tammy Taylor explains to Marie Claire, "The vibe is definitely colorful and full of nail art — especially with the nostalgia of the early 2000s. Experiment with different lengths, shapes, and colors. Think outside the box and wear nails that make you happy."

One classic nail trend getting a remix this time around is the French manicure. The French manicure, which includes a white nail tip beneath a light pink overall color, is known for being a classic and simple choice for those who perhaps want an understated nail look. However, if you want something a little more glam and with flair, there are a few French manicure remixes to play around with. The ombré French nail is exactly what you need.

Vertical ombré french nails

Nothing says Y2K more than the vertical ombré French nails. This twist on a classic is nothing short of funky and will work seamlessly no matter what your style is. Although at first glance the vertical ombré French nails seem extraordinarily challenging, it's not overly complex to pull off. Celebrity nail artist Natalie Minerva explains to PopSugar, "That's why it's so cool; the blending of colors and the optical illusion of it just makes it seem like it's chrome. It's an amazing trick." All you need for this look is two opposing gel colors and a few basic tools, including a sponge, and a brush.

I Love My Polish suggests starting this look by first painting your nail in the darker of the two colors. Then take a sponge and dab on a vertical line that takes up half your nail with that color, and another line in the second color. Using your brush, draw on half the French tip in one color, and the other half in the other color, on opposite sides from where the colors appear lower on the nail. For example, if you've painted brown on the left of the nail and beige on the right, apply brown to the right side of your French tip, and beige to the left. Finish by adding a top coat and removing any excess polish. With these simple steps, you can get an incredible optical illusion that will dazzle anyone.

How to pull off ombré french nails

Like with any trend, there are variations you can make to have vertical ombré French nails fit in with your style. Nail brand Lights Lacquer shared via TikTok how you can pull off this look if you don't want to go for the dramatic version. Simply use neutral colors with the same technique to create the same optical illusion but in a subtle way, that is easier to blend with your daily look.

On the other hand, using bolder colors in this look is ideal for those who want to make a big nail statement. Influencer Samantha Jade shared on Instagram her take on this trend and it is anything but subtle. Instead of going for two similar tones, Jade took on two contrasting colors: pink and white, which creates more interest and a unique look. You can even use contrasting colors to create a seasonal look that can easily be switched out once the weather starts to change. No matter how you go about this trend, people won't be able to resist marveling at its beauty.
