Track Pants Are A Legitimate Fashion Choice, And We Can Prove It

What if we told you that you don't have to sacrifice looking cute to be comfortable? As we have all begun to attend events and go into the office more frequently, our loungewear has taken a backseat to other trousers. Lucky for us, celebrities and style icons worldwide have shown us that our favorite comfortable clothes can be worn out of the house just as frequently as our jeans and button-ups — it is all about how you style them.

Track pants, in particular, have become a staple to wear out of the house (and not just to the gym). Women wear their favorite track pants everywhere — from a night out to the office. This is a common "model off duty" look for some of our favorites, including Bella Hadid, who has posted herself sporting the look on Instagram. The versatility of track pants makes them a legitimate fashion choice no matter the occasion, as the look you can create all depends on how the pants are styled.

Tiny top, baggy track pants

Oversized, baggy pants with itty-bitty tops are a favorite fashion combination of Gen-Z that seems to work with no fail. Whereas wearing other oversized pieces with baggy pants can leave you drowning in fabric, a tiny top with your non-fitted pants will allow you to keep your shape. Tracksuit pants are an example of baggy pants that look fantastic with fitted crop tops.

Make it luxe with your footwear choice

Who says track pants can't be luxe? Accessories, such as shoes, can be used to change the overall feel of your track pants outfit. Try slipping on a pair of heels next time you wear your track pants out of the house. Instagram influencer Roslyn Griner shared a photo of her styling red and pink track pants with silver slingback heels for the ultimate luxury look.

Try out a different texture

Playing with textures is a great way to make a basic outfit more interesting. While track pants are most often known for being made of a slick, polyester material, according to Bosforus Textile, they also come in other varieties that may pair better with your outfit. For example, Juicy Couture is credited for bringing popularity to track pants made of a velour material, as per Hypebae. They are still comfortable and stretchy but can bring another dimension to your look.

The tracksuit

The resurgence of early aughts fashion has brought back a trend we thought we would never see again: the Juicy Couture tracksuit. "It's comfortable, it's sexy, it's fun, it's easy. It's just casual luxury," says Juicy Couture co-founder Pamela Skaist-Levy in an interview about the tracksuit with Page Six Style. They are a cool-girl fashion staple, as they are still fitted, matching, and blinged out while remaining comfortable.

Add contrast with a blouse

Tracksuit bottoms are considered for working out or lounging, so they are traditionally paired with tops also made for those activities. In fact, we often see track bottoms paired with simple t-shirts or tank tops. However, when wearing them out, we want to elevate the bottoms to the next level. It is easy to do this by adding contrast using a feminine blouse to the look.

Track pants for the office

Track pants have become a staple in the working woman's wardrobe. "I'm constantly traveling [for work]. Sometimes I go straight from the airport to a meeting. I need to be mobile, but I need to look professional," says healthcare consultant Julie Viola when speaking to The Wall Street Journal on why she wears track pants to work. Viola also chooses to wear a more tapered version of the pants with a professional top. It is all about styling the piece with other elevated items to make it business casual.

Colorful track pants

If you are looking to add a pop of color to your wardrobe, track pants can be a great way to do it. Colorful track pants are not the typical pair we see on the street, making the pants more elevated in themselves. Try a pair of pastel track pants, such as blue, pink, or green, with a neutral top for a feminine and fashion-forward approach to the track pants trend.
