Low-Rise Jeans Are Just Another Trend - The Timeless Options To Buy Instead

Of all the Y2K trends we want to stay locked up firmly in a fashion vault, it's low-rise jeans. Made popular by pop stars such as Britney Spears and Destiny's Child, the barely-there waistband was all the rage. It made bending over or sitting down impossible without flashing your undies, but in the early aughts, the lower the rise, the better. Thankfully, the trend died down toward the end of the decade, and waistbands became high enough to cover our belly buttons. However, with the revival of the 2000s trends came the dreaded low-rise jeans.

The style was seen on runways during fall 2023 shows, with high-end designers Stella McCartney and Isabel Marant showing models flaunting jeans worn low at the hips. Fashion influencers like Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner were seen wearing low-rise denim, confirming that midriff-baring bottoms were indeed fashionable again. If you're already over the low-rise jeans resurgence or simply don't want to waste your bucks on a trend that will eventually fade away, there are plenty of other options to choose from — and we promise they're a lot more flattering, like the mid-rise jeans.

Mid-rise jeans

If you still want to show off your midriff but don't want to bare your belly too much, try a mid-rise option. This fit will never go out of style and can be paired with just about any top. The length is perfect for tucking in a shirt or wearing a loose, baggy sweater over your jeans. Choose a pair of jeans in a loose fit for a trendy take on this classic look.

High-rise jeans

We love a good pair of high-waisted pants, and they aren't going anywhere. After all, not only do they elongate your legs, but they also act as a girdle for your waist and don't uncomfortably cut into your hips. Slim-fitting ones create a lengthening silhouette and give the option of wearing a crop top without showing too much skin.

Denim trousers

There's nothing more classic than a pair of denim trousers, which are a great alternative to wool or linen. They elevate a casual outfit while providing a touch of elegance. This fit can be a little tricky, but paired with a form-fitting top tucked in is the way to style these jeans. Be sure to wear shoes with some height to keep this look sophisticated.

Paperbag waist jeans

Paperbag waist pants are super flattering and give you a perfect hourglass shape by nipping in your waist. Find the perfect pair in a denim version, and it will be the one you'll reach for constantly. The key to getting the right fit is to make sure the waist hits just above your belly button. Any higher and the jeans will cut off your torso.

Denim leggings

We know skinny jeans have been out for a while but denim leggings are timeless. Comfy and stylish — what's not to love about them? Trade in your usual gym tights for denim leggings when you need to zip out of the house but want to dress it up a bit. You can even turn them into an evening look with a pair of stilettos and a dressy top.
