The Most Inappropriate Wedding Dresses Ever Seen On Say Yes To The Dress
There's nothing like a good binge session of "Say Yes to the Dress." It brings on all the feels when a bride and her entourage get teary because she's found the right gown. We've also been left wide-eyed and speechless by the price tags some brides (or members of their entourage) are willing to pay for a one-time outfit. Other times, we're gobsmacked at the comments that friends and family say to some of the poor brides-to-be. The things that come out of some demanding brides' mouths can gives us pause, too. (No judgment, but here are a few tips to avoid becoming a bridezilla and enjoy the big day.)
And sometimes, we are downright blown away by how inappropriate a wedding dress can be because a bride wants an over-the-top sexy look. As Randy Fenoli, the renowned Kleinfeld fashion director pointed out (via TLC), " ... for brides that want to show a lot of skin, I would say, 'That's [for] the honeymoon.'" That wasn't the case for these women looking for their ideal wedding dress, who sought out everything from naked dresses to gowns that blew the budget.
The bride that wanted to be nearly naked
When bride-to-be Alexis arrived at Kleinfeld, she explained, "My dream is to have a naked dress." The consultant Antonella did flinch, confessing that she'd never had a request like that previously, but she didn't waste any time fulfilling Alexis' desire to find a sheer dress. While that may seem wildly inappropriate to some, showing some skin is part of the anti-bride wedding dress trend where anything goes. "I am definitely looking for shock value," Alexis said in her confessional.
The bride who wanted her derrière to show
"Say Yes to the Dress" fans were not here for bride Yovanna, who wanted to reveal a lot of her backside. "I want almost the crack, but not quite the crack," she said in the episode. The feedback was harsh. "She has absolutely no class or style at all. And so full of herself!" one Facebook user wrote. Another added, "'Butt crack' and 'wedding dress' are two phrases not often mentioned together."
Innocent-looking bride? Not in this dress
Emily Altomare, who went wedding-dress shopping at Kleinfeld with her mother and sister, loved the crystal-bedecked wedding dress she tried on that left little to the imagination. Her mother, on the other hand, wanted to see her daughter in a princess ballgown. "On her wedding day, she should have a sweet, innocent look," the woman said, adding that she wanted to see her daughter in something other than the tight-fighting outfits she wore to work in a nightclub. Assignment not understood.
The edgy corset that didn't make the cut
Non-traditional and sexy was the brief for future bride Kristin Powell. She named Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra as her inspirations and confessed, "I'm not opposed to a black dress," which is not uncommon (check out the celebrities who didn't wear white wedding dresses). While she tried on a black two-piece look, her entourage didn't think it gave off bridal vibes. And though she liked a corset-inspired gown with sheer panelling — some may deem it inappropriate for a wedding dress — she ultimately said no to the dress.
The bride who didn't consider her fiancé's budget
In a non-traditional move, bride Whytnee brought her fiancé along to the fitting. He revealed the max budget for a dress was $5,000, but the bride brushed that off, choosing to try on a $10,000 wedding dress with a sheer bodice. She said, "I always get my way with him." Even if this dress wasn't pushing propriety envelopes, we'd still say it was inappropriate because of the bride's disregard for the groom's requested budget constraints. She ultimately went with a similar sheer, drop-waisted gown that was only $4,200.
A bride's bust needed to take center stage
Bride-to-be Chic Ciccarelli kept her focus on what her big day was all about: Showing off her ample chest. She wanted a figure-hugging wedding gown when she came dress hunting. "If you've got girls and you've got curves, you got to flaunt them, especially on your day," she said during her taping of "Say Yes to the Dress." She ultimately chose a style that she felt best-amplified her assets. Another happy Kleinfeld customer.
