Scarlett Johansson's Crimping Iron Hair Fail Will Always Haunt Her

Scarlett Johansson has one of the celebrity faces that science deems beautiful, and we suspect that science would deem her figure and hair as gorgeous as well. Still, bad hair happens to the most goddess-like among us sometimes, and for the "Eleanor the Great" director, that hair fail happened in June 2004 when she attended the Tony Awards in New York City.

She later revealed to People in 2019, "I wanted a hairstyle that looked like Jean Harlow's." At the time of the incident, Johansson was 19 years old and had established herself as a bonafide star after headlining the previous year's "Lost in Translation" and "Girl with the Pearl Earring." But instead of Jean Harlow's iconic finger waves, ScarJo's hair suffered a wild crimping disaster that will always haunt the "Black Widow" star. "It looked like a crimping iron. Basically, a crimping iron was taking a stand on my head. Yeah, it was electrical socket crazy," she added to People. Hair crimping is back with many ways to modernize the look, but ultimately, this early-aughts rendition was a fail.

This hairstyle was a fail for Scarlett Johansson's face shape

If you were to look at the hairstyles you should rock if you have a heart-shaped face like Scarlett Johansson's, you'd find ones that balance your face shape, rather than those that exaggerate its features. For example, a heart-shaped face features a wide forehead, so you wouldn't want to add width at the sides of the head from the forehead to the cheeks because it would make the upper half of the face appear even wider, throwing the proportions out of balance. Instead, folks with heart-shaped faces want to focus bulk and volume closer to the chin, where the face shape tapers in, and minimize the appearance of the forehead when possible.

Johansson's done this beautifully throughout the years. After all, the "Jurassic World: Rebirth" star has practically sampled every length and color throughout her three decades in Hollywood. One example of when she's worn her hair to suit her face shape well was at the 2005 Academy Awards, where she wore side-swept bangs as part of her playful hairstyle. Another example of her striking balance came at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, where she had full waves that added the illusion of width to the bottom half of her face. With looks like these, Johansson has circumvented repeating her past hair mistakes, and you can, too.
