Sharon Stone's Stunning Hair Transformation

Sharon Stone is undoubtedly one of those celebrity style icons that should influence your wardrobe selections, but we also think she's a fabulous reference for hairstyles. Through the years, Stone, who turned 67 in March 2025, has had a stunning hair transformation. From the time she arrived in Hollywood in the '80s with of-the-era tresses until her fame shot skyward in the '90s and she adopted her signature hairstyle, Stone has always been bona-fide hair inspiration.

While she's returned to her signature pixie in recent years, we're pretty sure she isn't settled into this look for the foreseeable future. Her hair is always evolving, and we're excited to see what that means for her "Euphoria" character. That's right: The "Basic Instinct" star is joining the cast for Season 3, set to bow in spring 2026. Will she play the femme fatale she built her career on? No word yet, as she, like the rest of the cast, is keeping her lips sealed. In the meantime, let's take a trip down memory lane — and Stone's greatest hair hits.

1985-1990: Sharon Stone arrives in Hollywood with curls and bangs

Though Pennsylvania-native Sharon Stone began her career in entertainment as a model in print and commercials, she caught the acting bug in the early 1980s and moved to Los Angeles to pursue show biz. Her big curls, taken from a 1985 publicity still from a film she had a bit part in, looked on-trend for the era of excess. However, it's one look we haven't seen Stone repeat through the years.

By the time she starred in her breakthrough role opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1990's "Total Recall," her hair was looking tamer. She appeared at a movie premiere that year with a simple updo and long, eye-grazing bangs. In other images from this era, we can see that Stone's blond hair was usually worn just below her shoulders, sometimes layered and choppy, and sometimes with a fringe (and sometimes without).

1991-2004: Sharon Stone's signature hairstyle arrives

A lot happened in Sharon Stone's life after her successful turn in "Total Recall." She received two of her biggest roles in 1992's "Basic Instinct" and 1995's "Casino," for which she won a Golden Globe award. She also married Phil Bronstein, a newspaper magnate, and adopted three sons (in 2000, 2005, and 2006).

She also made two of her biggest hair moves. First, she cut a lot of it off in the early '90s, giving her a sophisticated bombshell aura, which she showed off at the 1992 Academy Awards. Then, in 1996, she chopped it into a pixie cut, which became her signature style. It felt like you couldn't read an article about pixie cuts from this era without seeing Stone as the example. And she didn't style it in one way, either. She experimented with spiky looks, as well as wet styles, where the hair was brushed away from the face. She even wore it in a helmet-y bowl cut on a few occasions. Still, her style at the 1998 Golden Globes, with it parted and brushed to the right, is one of her most memorable looks from the era.

2005-2013: Sharon Stone tries different hair lengths

Although many people didn't realize it at the time, Sharon Stone had a stroke and brain hemorrhage in 2001. She later explained that it took years to recover from the incident, which had many physical side effects, including thinning hair. Perhaps coincidentally, it looks as if she starts wearing hair pieces and wigs in the mid-aughts. Instead of looks that mimicked her signature short hairstyle, she opted for longer lengths and occasionally baby bangs. (If you're struggling with thinning tresses, here are five styling tips for how to wear your hair with confidence.)

As she recovered, Stone's career sadly suffered. She explained to People in 2025 that it was hard to bounce back after her health issues, which included trouble walking and a speech stutter. But she did, and she wants others to feel empowered. "I want to say to people, 'You can do it.' And I want them to look at me and know, [I had] a husband that was divorcing me, with everybody fighting to take everything, with the bank, who had taken $18 million all my life savings. I had nothing. I had no money. No career," she told the outlet. Stone appeared in a number of TV shows over the next decade, but she sadly never had the same success as she did in the '90s.

2014-Present: Sharon Stone goes back to the hair of her heyday

Over the past decade, Sharon Stone has returned to her signature hair look with shorter styles. In 2014, she attended the Cannes Film Festival with Swiss jeweler Fawaz Gruosi, looking very affectionate and like she was enjoying life. The then-56-year-old's hair looked full and fresh.

A few years later, she transitioned her main career to painting, though she has continued to appear in films and TV shows. She's also embracing aging, but strives to feel her best in the process. As she told The Times in early 2025, "A lot of people give up as they get older. They let go of their body because it's collapsing anyway, or it's like, 'I'm not defined by my body anymore.' But you still have to love that body." As of October 2025, the artist has been wearing her hair in a short, wavy bob, as she showed at a beauty event in Beverly Hills. And just like her mindset, it appears ready for whatever's next.

Now, for a deep dive into another celeb who's rocked long and short looks alike, here's Emma Stone's dramatic hair transformation.
