Pics Of Margot Robbie Before & After She Found The Perfect Hair Color For Her
There are so many celebs whose dyed hair looks arguably better than their natural color. For starters, see pics of Christina Hendricks before and after she found her iconic red hair hue. Those fiery locks have become so synonymous with her that it's hard to imagine a time when the "Mad Men" star wasn't a redhead. Another perfect example is Margot Robbie. The actor has rocked her lived-in blond shade for so long that you may not have known she's actually a brunette. In fact, Margot Robbie is almost unrecognizable with her natural brown hair color. The actor's darker roots have been so seamlessly blended into her unique shade of blond that you almost wouldn't even notice it. Now that's a good dye job, folks!
The photo on the left was taken of Robbie in June 2011, and the photo on the right was taken in March 2026. While her natural brunette color is undeniably gorgeous, blond really suits the actor, especially after finding her perfect shade. Her hair is blond, but not too blond — more of a beachy balayage that blends in her naturally darker roots.
At first, Margot Robbie didn't want to go blond
Margot Robbie admitted to InStyle back in 2014 that going blond was more of a career move rather than a personal decision. "When I started working and acting, they all wanted me to have blonde hair," she said. But despite the "Barbie" star's initial hesitation to make such a drastic hair change, with time, she's come to appreciate the benefits of both shades. "I was devastated when I [first] had to go blonde," she said in a 2014 interview with Elle. "[But] once I was blonde for a couple of years, I ended up loving it."
Some of Robbie's most iconic roles have featured her as a blond — from her titular role as Barbie to Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad" and Catherine Earnshaw in "Wuthering Heights." It's hard to imagine her as a brunette playing those characters, so we're glad Robbie was ultimately willing to embrace the blond.
Of course, it's not just any old dye job that transformed the actor's hair. Robbie's masterful shade of blond was created by celebrity colorist Jacob Schwartz. He told Who What Wear in 2025 that he has a very specific process that he uses to achieve Robbie's organic look. "If I've started applying the color at the back, I'll rinse the back first, and then I'll work my way around the head," he said. "At the end, I'll do a gloss treatment, which will blend any greys and soften the root while harmonizing everything and tying together the whole look." Schwartz also confirmed that he applies a balayage technique to blend color more naturally, giving it that unique-to-Robbie hue.
