Jennifer Lopez's Ethereal Office Romance Premiere Look Puts Modern Spin On '00s Makeup

Jennifer Lopez's post-divorce style proves she's dressing for revenge, and she totally wowed at the New York City premiere of "Office Romance" on June 2. Wearing a strapless nude Miss Sohee dress embroidered with flowers, the "If You Had My Love" singer brought Y2K nostalgia with frosted pastel eyeshadow and bronzer applied like a total makeup pro. However, instead of placing the white shimmer on her brows, as folks did in the early aughts, Lopez applied the shadow on the inner half of her lids, while dusting a bubblegum pink shade over her crease. The whole effect created a gorgeous watercolor finish that was enhanced with spiky lashes and feathery brows.

Lopez was the queen of ethereal makeup in the 2000s, and she literally inspired her makeup artist, Scott Barnes, to create the J.Lo glow. "I used light, oils, and moisture to let her skin shine through, almost like watercolor. I treated makeup like a stain; you didn't see where things started or where they stopped. It wasn't harsh, and it wasn't heavy. That became her signature," the beauty guru shared with Refinery 29. While frosted shadow was also big at the time, Barnes admitted that Lopez's "Angel Eyes" premiere makeup wasn't one of his favorites because her eyeshadow was too white. However, fans of the "Atlas" star are in luck, as shimmery lids are trending again, and there are ways to wear Y2K makeup without looking overly retro.

Move over, clean-girl makeup — 2026 is all about maximalist beauty, and that includes lots of shimmer. But we're not talking about the chunky sparkle of the 2000s. These days, shadows are more subtle, with makeup artist Pat McGrath telling Allure, "In the past, sparkle could sometimes feel heavy, gritty, or overly obvious on the skin, like it could completely fall off. Now, the most exciting shimmer is far more refined. It can be translucent, light-reflective, and almost liquid in the way it catches light." She added, "You see people pairing sparkle with unexpected color, layering iridescence over bare skin, or using multidimensional finishes in a way that feels expressive rather than overly done."

Frosted pink shadow can be tricky to use, but using it as a contour like Jennifer Lopez did can be a surprising twist on the noughties trend. Just be sure not to use a shade that has too much red in it, or you'll look like you have a bad case of pinkeye. And placement is key, as well. Give yourself a touch of shimmer on your brow bone or just underneath your eyes. You can also add a touch to your cupid's bow to enhance your pout.
