'I Only Have So Many Tomorrows Left': How Aging Influenced Jane Fonda To Give Up Alcohol
Hollywood star Jane Fonda keeps setting the standard for women in Hollywood by using her platform and projects for so much more than just fame and fortune. Through the years in the spotlight, the Academy Award winner has also been known as a committed activist, with a mission to make a change. Whether she's among the celebrities not afraid to be outfit repeaters because she wants to fight consumerism or embracing bold lashes and joining a list of older celebs who are breaking all the makeup rules, Fonda is not afraid of expressing herself and speaking up, and we love it. In 2022, the activist opened up about how aging affected her decision to give up alcohol, thereby becoming a role model for many who are considering doing the same.
"It's because even with one drink, like, if I had a martini tonight, I would be at half-mast tomorrow," the "Grace and Frankie" star told CBS News in 2022. "Now, that wasn't true when I was younger. But as you get older, I think alcohol affects you differently. And I only have so many tomorrows left. I don't want to be at half-mast for any of them!" With the admission, Fonda also joined a circle of female celebrities who ditched alcohol and look absolutely radiant. Having turned 88 in 2025, we have to admit, living an alcohol-free life looks incredible on Fonda.
Jane Fonda admitted that her body often doesn't feel like her own
With more than six decades in the entertainment industry, Jane Fonda has lived most of her life in the spotlight. And in Hollywood, it's no secret that when women age, they are often disregarded as less valuable. Luckily, stars like "Barbarella" actor are openly talking about getting older, and at the age of 88, Jane Fonda is reframing how she thinks of beauty. Nevertheless, the actor has commented that, with aging, she ended up feeling like her body wasn't her own anymore.
"I'm super-conscious that I'm closer to death," she admitted to CBS News. "And it doesn't really bother me that much. What bothers me is that my body is, you know, basically not mine! My knees are not mine, my hips are not mine, my shoulder's not mine." However, while her body has changed, Fonda is working on accepting the changes. "The fact is, if you're alive and relatively healthy at an older — I mean, I'm almost 85," the "Cat Ballou" star said. "The fact that I'm still alive and working, wow, who cares if I don't have my old joints? And I can't ski or bike or run anymore? Enh. You know, you can be really old at 60, and you can be really young at 85. Health!" And frankly, we couldn't agree more. The star is the epitome of how important physical health is, and the fact that she is embracing and still exploring fashion and beauty in her 80s is certainly proof that she is still a diva at heart. Not surprising at all! In fact, Fonda is the ultimate beauty inspo for rocking red lipstick over 80.
