The 'Trinity' Of '80s & '90s Supermodels Were Total BFF Goals

When you think of the world's first supermodels, the names Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell immediately come to mind. Naomi Campbell easily had some of the most iconic looks in the '90s. And honestly, we have solid proof that they're all still as gorgeous as ever. We've taken serious note of how supermodel Christy Turlington is aging like fine wine recently, and Linda Evangelista is still an absolute stunner today. Back in the day, though, these women were total peas in a pod. Other supermodels like Cindy Crawford rocked with them occasionally, but the core three were completely inseparable. 

According to New York Magazine, the way this "trinity" (as they were referred to) came to be was total kismet. Turlington introduced Campbell to photographer Steven Meisel in 1986, who then introduced Turlington to Evangelista. What made their friendship so iconic was the shared support and what Campbell described as a lack of any competitive feelings. "We really were friends," she once told People (via Hello! Magazine). "We cared to hang out with each other when we're not working and have dinner together. We didn't want to be separated ... We were very supportive of each other, and we still are."

Unfortunately, racial discrimination was still alive and well back in the '80s too, and Campbell discussed with Interview Magazine how her friends had her back during those times. "There were certain designers who hadn't used models of color in their shows, and Christy [Turlington] and Linda [Evangelista] said to them, 'If you don't take Naomi, then you don't get us,' she said. "My friends and comrades stuck up for me. That doesn't happen in fashion."

Of all the supermodels at the time, it's adorable that Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington became true BFFs. Even years later, the women still look back on their fond memories together. Turlington once told Vogue about a fateful photoshoot where the two met. "Naomi was hilarious and had us in stitches the whole time," she reminisced. "Several months later when Naomi came to New York, I offered her to stay with me ... That was as close to having a dorm roommate as I ever got."

In the same Interview Magazine chat, Campbell also shared a few of her best memories of being together during those early days of modeling and shooting together. " ... We'd be waiting — sometimes for hours — for a dress to arrive," she shared. "But as long as we had good music, nobody said they were tired. Nobody cared. So I'm happy that I got to be around such a great group of ladies ... But it was also a lot of fun — and I didn't feel alone. Those ladies still look amazing today."
