The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards are here once again, and we had no doubt just how unforgettable the red carpet would be. Celebs have never been one to play it safe at these events, often turning up in bold and bizarre looks. In fact, most of the outfits on our list of worst VMA looks of all time weren't boring ensembles; they were ensembles gone wrong. So we expected to be stunned — for better or worse.

While some outfits looked iconic, others had us saying "absolutely not" and wondering what on earth the stars and their stylists were thinking. Admittedly, it can be hard to find the balance between looking good and taking risks. But there is a world of difference between trying something new and slapping a bra atop a skirt and calling it a day — looking at you, Tyla. From outfits that were terribly put together to those that showed poor design skills, we won't be forgetting any of these 2026 VMA flop-fits.

Actor Megan Lawless is undoubtedly one of the hottest new stars of the season, and this was an opportunity to define her style with the right VMA outfit. Unfortunately, the ensemble she picked did nothing for her features. The look seemed to combine capris and a bodysuit without any creativity, leaving her looking rather flat on the red carpet. Additionally, the all-black 'fit had some odd proportions and lacked any contrast.

Emma Bunton's time in the limelight has served us some wickedly good looks, but her outfit at the 2026 VMAs was a solid miss. We're all for experimenting with new cuts and shapes, but they have to be stylistically chosen to flatter and complement — Bunton's dress does neither. The raised shoulders, three-quarter sleeves, and cropped cut seem to be working against each other and come across like a last-minute, too-small outfit choice.

Lisa has had an incredible music run lately, and she deserved an outfit that celebrated the jaw-dropping looks we've gotten used to in her music videos. Her outfit at the VMAs did no such thing. The furry appendages behind her and on her shoulders were certainly a choice, but not a good one, and it did nothing to hide how plain the rest of the dress was.

Unfortunately, Tyla's presence on our worst-dressed list at the MTV Video Music Awards isn't surprising. Despite her stunning good looks, she's constantly dressed in outfits that seem preoccupied with showing off her impressive features rather than looking fashionable. The bra atop the low-rise skirt showed no creativity, and the choker was so 2016 — and not in a good way. We love the cornrows, and animal print can be a fun choice for the VMAs, but this looked like something you could find on Shein.

There's no doubt that Paris Hilton has rocked some of the best Y2K outfits in the 2000s, but this ensemble shows none of that design prowess. It looks like a merge between a bodysuit, a cape, and a super fancy skirt. With the boots and gloves, the combination looks like a homemade superhero outfit. There are holes everywhere, and even the color isn't particularly flattering on Paris' bronzed skin.

Normani is absolutely gorgeous, and it's always a delight to see her on the red carpet, but her 2026 VMAs outfit was proof that less is more. From the huge pleated skirt to the full-length gloves and the massive flower tucked to her side, this outfit swallows the singer up. Normani's stylist seems to have tried to combine too many features into one ensemble and ended up with a confusing result. With only a few subtractions, Normani's look could have been a stunner.

The deconstructed trend is exciting and daring, but it's also super easy to get it wrong. We can see the bones of Bella Poarch's corset sticking out, which wouldn't have been a bad stylistic choice if not for the fact that the laces on the lower parts of the dress look like underwear. Combine that with the tons of lace and the confusing extra fabric around her waist, and Poarch looks like she's been through the shredder. Without a doubt, the singer and her stylist need a refresher course on how to wear the deconstructed tailoring trend without looking undone.
