As one of the stars of the beloved British drama "Downton Abbey," Joanne Froggatt has undergone a major on-screen transformation. When looking at what the cast of "Downton Abbey" looks like in real life, Froggatt stands out thanks to her polished yet modern aesthetic, which differs from her character, the head housemaid Anna. Froggatt's real-life style may be flawless, but it's her manicure that has emerged as a fall staple. While attending the Season 2 premiere of "MobLand" in September 2026, Froggatt rocked a coconut milk manicure, a nail look which involves a sheer varnish of milky-white polish.

Coconut milk nails are the latest spin on the milk bath manicure, and have become popular for their clean aesthetic and versatility. While jewel tones in darker shades are typically among the dominant nail colors every fall and winter, coconut milk manicures are a chic cool-weather alternative. The milky nails' pearlescent finish and overall neutrality make them one of our favorite manicures.

If you're looking for your next subtle nail look this fall, give the coconut milk manicure a try. The best part? Froggatt's delicate take on the look is easy to recreate at home. With just a few simple tools and two polish colors, you can get the coveted fall manicure without a trip to the nail salon.

How to get the coconut milk manicure at home

Achieving Joanne Froggatt's elegant coconut milk manicure may seem daunting, but it's not as difficult as it looks. Even for the at-home mani amateur, engaging in the milky nails trend can be quite simple. First, make sure you have the correct polishes. You'll need a sheer off-white or very light-pink nail polish (like Funny Bunny or Put it in Neutral from OPI, or a gloss-finish jelly polish like Essie's Arctic Jelly). You'll also need a sheer, iridescent top coat like Londontown's Milk Bath.

Before anything else, make sure to file your nails into whatever shape you choose — rounded almond nails are typical for this manicure, as they fit into the "clean girl aesthetic" of the look. Then, utilize your polish to slowly (and thinly) build up a sheer, milky varnish. You can make the final effect as opaque or sheer as you want by layering, but a coconut milk look à la Froggatt requires a barely there touch. Once you're happy with the look, finish it off with a thin coat of your glossy, pearlescent polish.

While this subtle look is perfect for the transition period from summer to autumn, we have been bringing the milk nails trend into winter since 2023. Practice the coconut milk nail technique throughout the cooler months, and you're sure to have a versatile (and endlessly customizable) manicure that spans the four seasons perfectly.
