What The Leading Ladies Of The Witcher Look Like In Real Life
"The Witcher" took the fantasy world by storm when it debuted in 2019, with Henry Cavill as the lead. Joining him were Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, as well as Geralt of Rivia's child of surprise, Princess Cirilla (Ciri), played by Freya Allan. Based on the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the series is full of surreal world-building, magic, and a cast full of gorgeous, ethereal women. Naturally, there are quite a few special effects that go into creating their mystical looks, and you'd be surprised by what they look like in real life.
Chalotra had perhaps one of the biggest transformations, as Yennefer had a hunchback and an uneven jawline during the first part of Season 1. Getting into character helped, however, even though the process was grueling. "Automatically, when you're in the chair for three hours before you go onto set, as the younger Yennefer, I am getting into the headspace of the character," the actor told Cinemablend. She continued, "The prosthetic, the hunchback, made me look at the floor, and because I was looking at the floor, I was a lot more self-conscious, and I felt inferior, and I was scared to use my voice." After a few episodes, Yennefer used magic to make herself beautiful, and fans got a glimpse of her real-life look. You may be surprised to learn that her eyes aren't really purple, and along with Chalotra, these leading ladies of "The Witcher" look remarkably different off-camera.
Anya Chalotra had the biggest Witcher transformation
Anya Chalotra started Season 1 of "The Witcher" wearing prosthetics and making herself appear smaller until her transformation into a dazzling sorceress, but the one thing that remained the same was her striking purple eyes. In real life, however, Chalotra has gorgeous brown eyes that can benefit from some seriously bold eyeliner colors. She wears her hair in the same raven-black shade as her character, often long and slightly wavy. Although Yennefer of Vengerberg loves a good smoky eye, it seems that the "Wanderlust" star likes to keep her makeup minimal, with just a hint of color on her lips.
Freya Allan is a brunette in real life
One of "The Witcher" cast members with the most striking looks is Freya Allan, who plays Princess Cirilla. As someone with elder blood and magical powers, she naturally has to look the part, and does so with silvery blond hair and pale green eyes. It turns out that Ciri's look is thanks to a wig and colored contacts, as Allan is naturally a brunette, which is a hair color that looks amazing with blue eyes. When she's not filming, Allan shows off her shiny chestnut-colored strands sprinkled with some highlights for that candlelit glow.
Mimî M Khayisa has fun with her braids
Mimî M Khayisa began Season 1 of "The Witcher" as a student at Aretuza, with her character, Fringilla, wearing her hair short. As the seasons went on and her powers got stronger, Fringilla's style became more elaborate, often wearing intricate braids styled high on her head like a crown. Off-screen, Khayisa's braids are more modern and playful, such as the long, beaded plaits she wore to the Season 4 premiere, which she accessorized with a black cap. As for her makeup, the native Brit wore shimmery shadow and rosy blush that highlighted her flawless skin.
MyAnna Buring is a lot warmer than her Witcher character
As the headmistress of Aretuza, Tissaia de Vries was stern, hardly ever cracking even a hint of a smile during her three seasons on "The Witcher." Played by MyAnna Buring, de Vries' style reflected her tough nature, with her hair tightly pulled back and often wearing rigid, high-collared dresses. However, Buring looks nothing like her character, and in an Instagram post shared in November 2025, she was seen with a cropped, face-framing haircut that made her look younger. The activist looked unrecognizable with blond hair that she wore loose and wavy, and her makeup-free skin looked absolutely luminous.
Jodhi May looks just as regal in real life as Queen Calanthe
Queen Calanthe may have died early on in "The Witcher" Season 1, but she was so central to the show as Princess Cirilla's grandmother. The fierce Lioness of Cintra taught Ciri to be a fighter, and her regal demeanor showed she was the boss. In real life, Jodhi May doesn't look much different than her character, and presents herself just as queenly. During an HBO Max event in March 2026, she looked bold and beautiful with her hair pulled back, wearing peachy-red lipstick. Although May didn't wear a crown, her power suit and unwavering gaze said it all.
Anna Shaffer has a cool-girl style outside of The Witcher
Triss Merigold is one of the most powerful sorceresses in "The Witcher" series, and totally dresses like one. She often wears long, flowy gowns, furred capes, and her curly hair wild around her face. While her portrayer, Anna Shaffer, also wears her coiled hair loose, her fashion is nothing like Merigold's. The Londonite loves to mix things around with cool leather jackets and structured suits. "I've always felt my best when I'm put together," she told Harper's Bazaar in 2024. The fashionista added, "What we wear is basically the first visual indicator of who we are trying to portray to the world."
