With a career that spans over 25 years, Reese Witherspoon has made her mark in Hollywood. Since her Elle Woods days, the Academy award-winning actress has become recognizable by her welcoming smile and signature blonde strands. But now, at 43 years old, the Legally Blonde actress says she’s okay with getting gray hairs.
In an interview with Allure, Witherspoon open up about embracing the aging process. “I’m starting to get gray around the edges of my hairline,” she said. “Lorri [her longtime hairstylist] doesn’t like to call them grays, though. She says they’re ‘hyper-blondes.’”
She went onto explain that she has her highlights done every seven or eight weeks and that the balayage process takes around three hours at a time. And even though Witherspoon says that her hairstylist is “meticulous” about the process, taking extra precautions so her tips don’t break, all that coloring can take a toll on strands.
So, how does she keep her hair looking so full, shiny, and healthy? Prenatal vitamins.
“One of my girlfriends told me she takes them even though she’s not pregnant, so now I do, too. It makes my hair look better,” she told the magazine.
Though there is little scientific evidence to support this, a lot of women, including stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Mindy Kaling, claim that taking prenatal vitamins when they’re not pregnant speeds up hair growth while giving it an overall healthier appearance. That’s because they contain nutrients and minerals like folic acid, calcium, and iron.
Despite her high-maintenance hair routine, Witherspoon has embraced aging and seems to appreciate the gray hairs that are starting to grow in. “I’m 43 and I’ve had a whole bunch of experiences, and I can speak with a thoughtfulness about the changes I’d like to see in the world, and … I just feel like I earned that gray hair and my fine lines. I like ’em,” she said.
