It uses an everyday kitchen tool in the place of a common hair care accessory to create a look that is just as beautiful (or even better). The hack is great for when you are in a pinch trying to create the perfect curls and waves, or if you are just looking to try something new and interesting.

TikTok user Liz Fox Roseberry garnered over 800,000 likes when she shared a video of herself using a pasta strainer to diffuse her curls. "A diffuser is an attachment for your blow dryer that disperses the air to reduce frizz and keep from disrupting the natural wave pattern," Bumble & bumble hair colorist Stephanie Diaz told Good Housekeeping when speaking on the purpose of traditional diffusers. In simpler terms, diffusers are often used by those with naturally curly or wavy hair to keep curls all looking the same with lots of body and minimal frizz. Traditional diffusers are often made of plastic and hook to the end of your hair dryer. They have a flat end with multiple prongs that release the hot air.
When using a pasta strainer as a diffuser, you will use it in a similar way that you would use a normal diffuser. Still prep your hair with heat protectant and begin with wet hair. When you use a hair diffuser you will often flip your head upside down and push the hair up from the bottom with the diffuser. With a pasta strainer, you will use a similar tactic, with your hair falling into the strainer while you hold the blow dryer underneath. Once your hair is around 80% dry, let the rest air dry. When your hair is 100% dry, your curls or waves should all be in an even pattern with minimal frizz.

She says to complete the hack you will need to wrap your hair around the bathrobe tie as if it were the extra piece in a French braid. For best results, use the hack on damp hair and sleep with the tie in your hair overnight. In the morning you will have beautiful, luscious curls.
