The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2025 MTV VMAs
Few awards shows are more iconic and memorable than the MTV Music Video Awards. A-list celebrities attend the VMAs to celebrate the best and newest music acts, and performances wow in-person and at-home audiences alike — and sometimes go down in history as huge moments in pop culture. Of course, in a room full of so many superstars, the fashion is something to see. Many celebs are all about high glamour, while others choose to surprise everyone with unique red carpet choices. And not everyone stuns in the end — the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Grammys can vouch for that.
This year, many celebs seemed to favor vintage styles with their outfits. Gowns ranged from long, elegant styles to short and sexy dresses, and some attendees went all out with big constructions and long lines to be extra eye-catching. It was obvious that black is the new black, as many went colorless, donning neutral noir dresses in various silhouettes with platform heels. Ultimately, though, while everyone was determined to impress, some fell flat by going too massive or relying on outdated styles. Let's take a look at the celebs who turned heads at the 2025 VMAs for all the wrong reasons.
Zara Larsson made flower power look tacky at the 2025 VMAs
Did Zara Larsson raid a Claire's store before hitting the red carpet? Because it looked like she was wearing a makeshift beach coverup over her exposed underwear, one of 2023's riskiest trends that's back to being sidelined. The "Midnight Sun" singer's sheer minidress might be a good fit for the pool, but not for the VMAs. Her outfit looked like something that Brooke Hogan would wear to the Teen Choice Awards back in 2003. Ultimately, with big pastel flowers and beads hanging of every inch, Larsson's dress looked juvenile and unfinished, and for such little dress material, there was way too much going on.
Rebecca Black's 2025 VMAs dress was too big and busy
We get it: Everyone wants to be Lady Gaga by wearing a huge, eccentric outfit with wildly high heels, but sadly, not everyone can pull it off. "Friday" singer Rebecca Black was giving gothic witch vibes with her dress, but not in a chic way. The top looked like a thick snake was wrapped around her shoulders, but the material looked ... fluffy? It almost appeared like flower petals that had died weeks ago. The skirt seemed to be nothing more than a dusty lace tablecloth. Black should have worn this to a renaissance fair rather than a red carpet.
Alix Earle picked the most forgettable VMAs dress
Alix Earle really surprised us, as we can't imaging anyone being invited to one of the hottest shows of the year and immediately thinking that "less is more" is appropriate. The "Hot Mess with Alix Earle" podcaster wore a plain white minidress that was boring with a capital "B." The fabric was cut out around the arm holes and lacked shape to be point where it looked frumpy and bulky. She clearly wanted to show some skin by going bare on her long, stunning legs, but she picked a dress with ugly cap sleeves that did her no favors. Unfortunately, Earle also appeared pretty low in energy on the carpet, so the entire presentation was dull.
Megan Stalter channeled morning brew
To say that Megan Stalter's outfit was costumey would be an understatement. Stalter always draws eyes with her unconventional red carpet wardrobe, but this outfit felt like a Halloween costume gone wrong. The "Hacks" actor looked like a chandelier or a multi-tiered cake, but somehow a boring one in a pale shade that washed out her skin tone. As bad as it was, the worst part might have been her hair, which was cut at different lengths. Her nails and the cute Dunkin' coffee cup mini-purse were cute, redeeming aspects, though.
Lola Young needs to pick a fashion lane
It's hard to tell what look Lola Young was hoping for with this ensemble. Was it supposed to be edgy and preppy? Altogether, it just looked unpolished to us. The color combination of black, white, and gold may generally feel classic, but it didn't work in this instance. This outfit would've looked better if she had eliminated the white elements — more specifically, if she'd ditched the white undergarments peeking out from the black capri pants so the gold accessories could really shine. Furthermore, white "Princess Diana socks," even as one of the trendiest '90s footwear looks, have no business being paired with black slingbacks.
Doja Cat's 2025 VMAs dress was visually overwhelming
Doja Cat looked to be inspired by Dolly Parton when she decided to wear a deep, plunging neckline, big blond hair, and pink dangly earrings to the 2025 VMAs. You might think there's no going wrong when paying homage to the queen of country, but Doja proved that isn't true. The fabric's texture looked like a comforter she stole from a dorm-room bed. She embraced colorblocking in her wardrobe so much that the magenta detail lining the dress was ruined by ugly green embellishments. The clashing colors made the "Jealous Type" performer look more like a cartoon — think Cosmo and Wanda from "The Fairly OddParents" — than the music superstar she is.
