Sadie Sink's Stunning Style Transformation

Ever since her breakthrough in 2017 as Max Mayfield in Netflix's hit sci-fi series "Stranger Things," Sadie Sink has been one of the most promising new Gen-Z actors. Since then, we've seen her in projects like the "Fear Street" horror trilogy, the acclaimed drama film "The Whale," and Taylor Swift's "All Too Well: The Short Film."

While there is no doubt that Sink will dominate small and big screens in the future, her fans admire her for so much more than her acting skills. One of Sink's more noticeable passions is fashion, as the young star makes sure she always looks perfectly put-together. In fact, even though she has been in the spotlight for less than a decade, the actor has already given us a breathtaking style transformation. So, as we eagerly await seeing what her next fashion moments are, let's take a look back at how her style evolved.

2017-2018: Sadie Sink's breakthrough style is sophisticated yet fun

Once she joined "Stranger Things," Sadie Sink found herself at some of the most prestigious red carpets in the industry. From the Golden Globes to the Emmys, 15-year-old Sink was invited to star-studded events, and at those she instantly established herself as a young woman who knows quite a bit about fashion. "Sadie is 15, but she really does get fashion," Sink's stylist Molly Dickson told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. "She knows what looks good, she really appreciates high-quality pieces, she knows what's cool, so that actually makes my job a lot more fun because designers then see it and then they want to start loaning to her."

In a 2018 interview with Elle, Sink revealed that friends come to her with fashion questions: "My friend, always before she buys anything she sends it to me and says: 'Is this a good idea?' It's either yes or no." Sink also shared that "The Devil Wears Prada" is her go-to favorite film and that Stella McCartney is her favorite designer. One of her best looks from this period was the nude Prada dress with a silver chainmail-like cover which she wore to the 2017 American Music Awards. " ... for me, fashion is one of the biggest changes," Sink told W Magazine in 2018. "I never got to wear Chanel or anything like that growing up, or really experience fashion the way I get to now. That's one of the best perks." Of course, Sink's best accessory is always her cowboy copper hair, which was one of our favorite colors in 2023. While most of us have to bring inspo photos to our hairstylists, Sink's copper hair is actually natural.

2019-2020: Sadie Sink reveals she loves mixing and matching

By 2019, Sadie Sink already had quite a bit of practice with picking her looks for industry events. And while the star usually went for elegant yet modern pieces for red carpets, her everyday style was a lot more casual and fun. "I don't think I'm defined by one style. I'm not just edgy and I'm not just into a tomboy look and I'm not just girly. I do what I want, and if I like something, I'll wear it," Sink told Who What Wear in 2020.

Sink became a brand ambassador for Kate Spade in 2019, which she revealed was a big dream come true for her. "I've always been interested in fashion ever since I was little, and obviously I didn't have access to the brands I do now," the "Stranger Things" actor said. "I'd always just look at Chanel and Kate Spade and think how incredible these brands were. To see that the campaign I did for Kate Spade is on the homepage, that's insane. The number of times I've logged onto this website and just dreamed about all these clothes and now I'm in this campaign — I'm so blessed."

The actor revealed that adding an unexpected element to a classic look is definitely her go-to trick. "... I like to combine styles," she shared. "If I'm ever wearing a super-flowy dress, I like to toughen it up with a boot or something." In September 2019, Sink attended the Kate Spade show at New York Fashion Week, and her look was a great example of the actor's ability to mix and match. Sink wore a stunning yellow-lime dress, which she combined with a cargo-like trench on top for that perfect amount of structure and casualness.

2021-2022: Sadie Sink is all about minimalist looks

As she was about to enter her 20s in 2022, Sadie Sink's style simplified — but that in no way made it boring. In fact, we could all learn a thing or two from Sink when it comes to mastering minimalist dressing. In public, Sink usually stuck to neutral colors or black-and-white combinations, but her everyday looks were a tad quirkier. Sink also admitted that overalls were a big part of her wardrobe. "Comfort plus durability plus cuteness equals overalls," she told Vogue in 2022.

While her red-carpet fashion remained simple, youthful, and chic, for photoshoots, Sink was ready to experiment. "I'm very open to trying anything and just playing around. I love doing editorial shoots because I get to wear stuff that I don't normally choose to wear in real life," the Netflix star told Who What Wear in 2022. "When I'm doing [an editorial] shoot, nothing's outside of my comfort zone." While looking perfectly put-together for her job is important to her, when she's not attending events or working, Sink is actually like most of us — she prefers comfort and being herself. "In a way, the clothing I wear in my personal life feels like a type of armour," the actor told Fashion Magazine in 2022. "I feel more like myself when I'm not dressed up."

2023-2024: Sadie Sink's style becomes more daring

In 2023 and 2024, Sadie Sink embraced a noticeably more daring and edgy aesthetic. The actor still adored elegant dresses and timeless pieces, but she was also experimenting with cutouts, matching sets, and bold hairstyles. "As someone who has grown up in the industry, I've gone through a lot of different looks already," Sink told Harper's Bazaar in 2024, after attending a Chanel show in Marseille, France. "At this point, I really know my style, and I especially know my style with Chanel. They know what I like — and I know what I like."

The actor continued taking what she likes from a variety of different styles, creating an eclectic and unique aesthetic. "I love mixing classic, elegant silhouettes with a little bit of edginess," the actor added. "I definitely love accessorizing with bold statement pieces and focusing on a shoe or maybe a necklace, or even a jacket sometimes, but then having kind of a good foundation under all of it that's just kind of classic." A wet-looking hairstyle became a popular choice for her, and every now and then, the star also rocked a red lip. However, her go-to was natural-looking makeup, with Sink revealing that less is more for her. "It's always been very minimal; I never really got into makeup when I was younger and now I keep it very simple, easy, sometimes nothing at all," she told Elle in 2023. In fact, Sink was the one who introduced us to the celeb-approved makeup trick that makes showing off your freckles easy.

2025-Present: Sadie Sink continues serving us incredible fashion moments

In 2025, Sadie Sink left us speechless when she showed up at the premiere for the fifth season of "Stranger Things in a gorgeous Prada set. To ensure the two-piece shines as it should, Sink kept her accessories minimal and hair and makeup simple. "When I was younger, while I was definitely interested in it, I was super shy when it came to fashion and beauty," the actor told Marie Claire in 2025. "My main concern back then was not wearing anything too mature makeup- or fashion-wise. Now, I feel more comfortable expressing my own taste, and naturally it's evolved over the years, and I'm able to define it more clearly."

It's clear that Sink's fashion evolution thus far has resulted in lots of confidence and fashion knowledge. And even though her journey in the spotlight is still in its beginning stages, Sink has already come a long way with her career. Fashion-wise, she's sure of her choices, which makes fans and fashion enthusiasts excited to see what her future wardrobe holds. "I'd say right now [my style is] relaxed. Not in the sense that I don't care about what I'm wearing, but just that I'm wearing whatever feels easy," Sink added. "I'm not too concerned about following trends or making a splash. That could change at any moment, but for now, it's just super relaxed and fuss-free."

While we wait to see Sink's next looks, check out how her co-star's style has changed, as Millie Bobby Brown has also had a stunning style transformation.
