Usha Vance's Unfortunate Shoe Choices Ruin Too Many Outfits

Usha Vance has an unenviable position. As the second lady, she is expected to be a jack of all trades in the wardrobe department and in her personal life. There are endless outreach events, diplomatic meetings, formal dinners, and other public appearances that she needs to be camera-ready for — all while managing being a pregnant mother of three. Naturally, with so much going on at any given moment, Usha Vance has had many inappropriate outfits and has made more than a few style mistakes. 

And, while a fair share of Usha Vance's looks have left us scratching our heads, her footwear choices are almost always questionable at best. The SLOTUS has been thoroughly roasted for her thick-soled "senior citizen" sneakers, tacky kitten heels, and array of boring ballet flats and loafers. Perhaps more egregiously than if she just had a bad sense of style, Vance often wears outfits that would be perfectly serviceable — that is, if they were styled with a half-decent pair of shoes. Let's take a look at some of Usha Vance's most outfit-ruining shoe choices.

Usha Vance's take on this shoe trend may be her biggest fashion fail yet. In April 2025, the SLOTUS wore a pair of chunky white sneakers during a White House event with the Ohio State University football team that weighed down her otherwise professional look. Even though a classic white sneaker will never go out of style, Vance's clunky attempt at dressing them up didn't quite work. Perhaps Vance should have opted for a slimmer shoe like the sneakerina, which is the popular shoe hybrid we saw everywhere in 2025.

At the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Usha Vance pulled out an old favorite of hers — a pair of tacky sneakers. Instead of the chunky white sneakers that she donned for the Ohio State football celebration, the SLOTUS donned a pair of red retro sneakers from Rag & Bone. While Vance was clearly going for a patriotic vibe with her red footwear, blue jeans, and white wool zip-up, the sneakers resemble clown shoes a bit too closely for our taste.

While a flat shoe can make an outfit more chic, Usha Vance's black-toed flats are one outdated ballet flat look that should be left in the past. At a September 2025 reading event at the Cherokee Classical Academy, Vance wore a pair of boring beige flats with a black toe. Paired with the SLOTUS' very professional red dress, the suede ballet flats read as not only a bit dated, but downright sloppy. 

Usha Vance often falls victim to poor color matching. At a Marine Corps 250th anniversary demonstration in October 2025, the SLOTUS attempted to be chic in a tan cropped trench coat, brown leather wide-leg pants, and pointed-toe kitten heels. While tan and brown are a very luxurious color combination, Vance certainly didn't succeed in matching the warm-toned tan of her coat and baseball hat to her shoes. Vance opted for a cool-toned tan kitten heel, which was not only incredibly dull, but also a mismatch in the color department.

While the pink coat dress Usha Vance wore to the 2025 presidential inauguration was a rare fashion win for the SLOTUS, her choice of footwear once again took away from an otherwise elegant outfit. Vance paired the Oscar De La Renta coat with knee-high suede boots. The blush pink and mauve-y brown work well together, but the boots themselves are too wide — especially next to the bell-shaped bottom half of the coat. Vance should have opted for a sleeker, more low-key boot, allowing the coat dress to shine without distractions. 

We are beyond tired of Usha Vance's kitten heels. While kitten heels came back in fall 2023 with a chic upgrade, Vance seems to have ignored all of the new styles in favor of a dated look. At a 2024 campaign event in Wisconsin, Vance wore a pair of boring pointed-toe navy blue kitten heels. Vance could have used a pair of stylish shoes to zhuzh up her wallpaper-esque skirt and old-fashioned blazer — a pop of color, dynamic straps, or even a higher heel are easy ways to add intrigue to her look.
