Outfits From Meghan Markle's Travel Wardrobe That Missed The Mark

Meghan Markle proved in Australia that she's free from royal style rules, but even she isn't immune to fashion missteps every now and then. While the former royal typically looks polished and poised, her many trips abroad over the years have shown that some of her outfits shouldn't have made it into her suitcase. Don't get us wrong, Meghan Markle has gone through a stunning style transformation. Her personal style has evolved immensely, and she's enjoying her newfound freedom without the constraints of royal life. But even so, Meghan Markle still occasionally finds herself in some outdated outfits, and we happened to find a slew of them when we took a closer look.

While many of Markle's outfits abroad were well-meaning, she still fell victim to outdated and sometimes unflattering styles like skinny jeans and espadrilles. She's also, unfortunately, no stranger to an ill-fitting dress. Her travel wardrobe overall isn't a complete catastrophe, but she could still re-think a few of these options next time she takes a trip.

This casual Meghan Markle look was almost too, well, casual

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's trip to Australia in April 2026 showed a few fashion missteps on Markle's part. To be honest, Meghan Markle's outfits on their Australia trip felt royally out of touch at times. This particular outfit made us scratch our heads a bit. The graphic tee and brown trench coat combo felt a little bit too casual considering that the pair were there for paid public appearances. The look also comes as a surprise when, normally, Markle is seen in dresses and button-downs. Next time, Markle should save the graphic tees for lounging at home.

Meghan Markle's vacation fashion fail

In October 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were still official working royals. The pair visited Fiji where Markle chose this floral maxi dress and espadrilles (2006 called — it would like its shoes back). Granted, Markle was pregnant with her first child at the time and probably wanted something comfortable, but it feels like she tried to emulate island vacation fashion without much success. The pom-pom tassels on the front of the dress look tacky, quite frankly, and the print is slightly outdated. It's great to be inspired by the area you're traveling to, but this missed the mark a bit.

Meghan Markle's accidentally see-through skirt

At first glance, this rich royal blue top and skirt combination that Meghan Markle wore in New Zealand in 2018 isn't bad. While slightly bland, it still works for the occasion. But then, in the right light, you see it. Her midi skirt is totally see-through and because she was a working royal at the time, we don't think this was intentional. Next time, Markle might want to check her outfit in natural light before making a public appearance.

Meghan Markle's wildly boring gray dress

While Meghan Markle usually sticks to a muted color palette, this dress she wore in 2018 on a trip to Dublin, Ireland is so drab that it's almost offensive. While the cut of the dress is elegant and flattering, the monotone gray shade pushes it toward unflattering. If she'd opted for a brighter color or even a lighter neutral, it probably would have worked. But alas, she went for the most boring color possible.

Meghan Markle's blazer and loafers did nothing to flatter her

When looking at photos of Meghan Markle's 2019 Morocco trip, you begin to wonder if Markle had fired her stylist at the time. Many of her looks were all over the place during this trek, and this one in particular wasn't put together well. While she may have been going for a casual-cool vibe, the too-long blazer paired with flat loafers didn't do much to flatter. Add in the skinny jeans (*jump scare*) and you have a recipe for disaster. If anything, a pair of black pumps would have better tied the outfit together.

Meghan Markle's trenchcoat dress was an awkward blend of styles

A trenchcoat and a dress are two distinct styles that should never be combined into one garment. Meghan Markle's wearing of one on a trip to South Africa in 2019 proves it. While wearing a midi dress and trenchcoat together makes for a classic and sophisticated outfit, a dress made of trench material with buttons seems awkward and slightly unflattering. The cut of the sleeves is the main issue here. It most likely would have worked better with short, boxier sleeves to give the look more dimension.
