The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2026 Tony Awards
Nobody expected every celebrity at the 2026 Tony Awards to land on the best-dressed list, but at the very least, we did expect them to show up looking like they actually put in some effort. The Tony Awards are supposed to be Broadway's biggest fashion night, and with so many theater kids all in one place, we expected flair, style, and pizzazz. And while some celebs did deliver at the event, held on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, those on the worst-dressed list of 2026 have us severely disappointed.
Some stars showed up in outfits that managed to be confusing and unflattering at the same time. Others seemed to pick the first forgettable thing in their closets, and some celebs, like Sarah Paulson (who was also on our list of the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Tony Awards), tried to mix multiple outfits in one with little forethought.
Interestingly, it isn't only the outfits that have us booing some celebs at this year's Tony Awards. We saw an uptick in "I just rolled out of bed" makeup looks, which might have worked for a meet-and-greet but felt a tad disrespectful for one of Broadway's biggest red carpet events. However, even underwhelming makeup couldn't distract us from the lack of fashion game that some stars showed. They're talented actors, yes, but these attendees might just deserve a spot on the list of the worst-dressed celebs in Tony Awards history.
Ella Beatty's side cut-out tried and failed to carry her outfit at the 2026 Tony Awards
Ella Beatty, daughter of veteran actor Annette Bening, has undoubtedly grown up to be gorgeous. Typically, we love her elegant style that favors the less-is-more approach, but the white dress she wore to the 2026 Tony Awards was as boring as her makeup. Between the plain fabric, the loose silhouette, and the safe sleek hair, her entire appearance felt underwhelming. Sure, there's a side cut-out, but with an outfit this plain, it's powerless to make the look memorable and even feels a bit out of place. We're all for elegant aesthetics, but Beatty's is so restrained that it doesn't leave an impression.
Sarah Paulson's 2026 Tony Awards dress direly needed to be steamed
Despite consistently working with high-end fashion brands, Sarah Paulson repeatedly appears on worst-dressed lists because she selects clothes that look great on models without committing to them properly. This time, her outfit at the 2026 Annual Tony Awards, which was part of Erdem's Fall/Winter 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, struggled to land because it wasn't steamed or ironed properly. This detail might have been subtle, but with a dress with two glaringly different halves, the little details are the distinction between looking intentional and coming off as mismatched.
Lea Michele's white tank was too low-effort for the 2026 Tony Awards
We've always advocated for elevating your basic white tank style, but the keyword here is "basic." This is why we can't wrap our heads around Lea Michele's decision to wear one to the 2026 Tony Awards. Tanks are for casual everyday wear, and not even a dramatic black sequined skirt can change that. Michele's outfit is incredibly safe and lacking in formality, even with the metallic effect of the sequins, which is a shame considering just how gorgeous she is.
Rachel Dratch's 2026 Tony Awards outfit felt dated
Red carpet gowns aren't just for younger women — the most stunning looks from older women at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival proved this — but Rachel Dratch's outfit is a masterclass on what not to do when going for glamour. The one-shoulder design is awkward, as is the sheer fabric that starts at her knees. The heavy zigzag pattern and all-black theme also come off as really dated and seem more suited for a frumpy banquet than a glamorous red carpet.
Kelly Ripa's Tonys outfit looked like no thought went into it
If you ever doubted that ditsy florals are one of the clothing patterns that can make you look older, allow Kelly Ripa's 2026 Tony Awards look to demonstrate. The fabric, which would have been better suited to a carpet, doesn't seem special, event-specific, or fitting for the Tony Awards. It certainly doesn't look planned and gives the impression that she just chose anything from an existing wardrobe with no attempt to dress it up. And since florals have been done to death, we might have a new entry for our list of the most outdated outfits Kelly Ripa has ever worn.
Danielle Brooks' dress at the 2026 Tony Awards had too much spillage
Full disclosure: Undersized breast cups are the one fashion trend that absolutely needs to die, and Danielle Brooks' outfit is proof. We're huge fans of sexy, cleavage-baring outfits, but when the breast cups are this ill-fitted, it makes the top half look overcrowded and too compressed, and takes away any impression that the outfit was custom. It's a shame because the rest of the dress fits beautifully, even if the silhouette is a little boring.
Maya Rudolph's 2026 Tony Awards outfit did her no favors
We're not sure what silhouette Maya Rudolph was going for with this outfit, but we certainly don't like it. It's shapeless, hides her figure, and looks a lot like a damaged tent. The placement of the cinch and the train is confusing, and the large expanse of black fabric adds zero visual interest. Unfortunately, her makeup is just as boring. Considering how often the actor lands on worst-dressed lists, it might be time to rethink her fashion strategy.
