Ally Sheedy's Style Evolution From Her '80s Heyday To Now

When it comes to actors from the 1980s, everyone remembers the Brat Pack, a group of the most in-demand young actors of the era. From "The Breakfast Club" to "St. Elmo's Fire," the mid-80s belonged to the Brat Pack, and trying to find a movie that didn't star at least one of them wasn't exactly easy. One of them was Ally Sheedy, who, in addition to being a famous '80s actor who's practically unrecognizable now, has had one heck of a style evolution. Which makes sense, because we'd argue the 1980s left much to be desired when it came to fashion.

But as huge as Sheedy's career was in the '80s, the onslaught of scripts began to slow down because she ultimately didn't want to feel pressured to maintain a certain look that often requires plastic surgery and other methods. "Let me tell you, I'm not some morally invincible human being — I did do some of those things," Sheedy told Salon in 1998. "I did go out and change my hair color and put on makeup. The whole thing was a ridiculous exercise, it really was... I did not do the things I was supposed to do to make myself into a movie star."

While that may be the case, the fact that Sheedy did things her way, as opposed to caving to unrealistic beauty standards, speaks volumes. These days, Sheedy doesn't act as much and is more focused on teaching acting instead. However, her style evolution is still worth checking out. Having once embraced the trends of the '80s, these days Sheedy opts for a more classically chic look.

In 1985, Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, and Judd Nelson were photographed at a promotional event for the movie "St. Elmo's Fire." For the series of photos, Sheedy looks so perfectly '80s in a surprisingly casual outfit. The pink striped print of her collared dress screams 1985, as does the white belt cinched at her waist. Sheedy's short, shaggy 'do was also popular at the time, and it reminds us of today's shattered bob, a choppy, texturized take on the short hair trend. Sheedy wore her shoulder-length hair wavy and added a new accessory to her look: glasses. Not only does Sheedy look chic, but she also looks like a woman who's comfortable in her skin.

In July 2026, Ally Sheedy attended the stage production, "Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been," starring her long-time friend and fellow Brat Packer, Molly Ringwald. Wearing a black blazer, black pants, and a white shirt, Sheedy looked casually chic as she hugged Ringwald. Still wearing her hair on the longer side and rocking glasses, Sheedy again appears to be more relaxed and comfortable these days. 

In "The Breakfast Club," the actor famously said, "when you grow up, your heart dies," but now at 64, Sheedy proves that's not true. Instead, you become more yourself with age.
