Pamela Anderson's Decision To Go Makeup-Free Was Inspired By A Heartbreaking Loss
Throughout her career, actor Pamela Anderson underwent an undeniable metamorphosis. The "Baywatch" star went from being a full-glam '90s diva to becoming a symbol of female empowerment and self-acceptance. Pamela Anderson's beauty transformation has been astonishing, and as she's been strutting through her late 50s, the star has embraced an unexpected change. Pamela Anderson ditched her normal style of makeup and never looked back as she stuck to a more natural look. In fact, for many public appearances, Anderson ditched makeup entirely, showing off her bare-skinned beauty. But the reason she decided to go makeup-free came from a tragic loss.
In a 2023 conversation with Elle, Anderson opened up about ditching her glam, sharing that the passing of her makeup artist Alexis Vogel was a big reason behind her decision. "She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it's just better for me not to wear makeup," Anderson revealed. She also explained that not having to do a heavy glam look for every public appearance has been "freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too. Because I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it's just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite of what everyone's doing."
Pamela Anderson wanted to challenge beauty standards by going makeup-free
While the passing of her makeup artist caused Pamela Anderson to ditch makeup, her decision to do so opened up the conversation around beauty standards, not just in Hollywood but across the globe. The actor first rocked the makeup-free look during Paris Fashion Week in September 2023, when she paired luxury fashion with a bare face. Of course, those who have followed the star's career know that Anderson was known for her smoky eyes and '90s lip liner, so ditching it all certainly gave the star a fresh look.
"I am much more comfortable in my own skin, but I also am in an industry that really focuses on beauty. And I thought, 'I'm going to challenge beauty,'" she shared with Today in 2023, adding, "I think challenging ourselves is what keeps us young and beautiful. And I think, really genuinely, beauty does come from within and you don't have to play the game." Since Paris Fashion Week in 2023, Pamela Anderson has gone makeup-free and looked flawless on numerous occasions. Speaking to Elle , the star shared that prior to embracing the natural look, she stuck to what she was told her makeup should be. "I just went along with what people were telling me what to do," Anderson admitted.
While Pamela Anderson isn't entirely opposed to makeup, she prefers skincare
Speaking to People in 2025, Pamela Anderson revealed that she actually sticks to skincare and no makeup products, unlike those who have only embraced a more natural glam. "I don't do the 'no makeup makeup'. I do the 'no makeup,'" she shared. "I wear Sonsie, my skincare," the actor said, referring to her vegan skincare line. "I have this new Adapt cream. That's my miracle new cream. And then I have a couple different lip balms. One has more shimmer and one has a little less."
Anderson added that seeing where the makeup and beauty industries have headed in recent years also played a role in her desire to look more natural. "I think people are starting to look more alike these days. But that has a lot to do with AI and social media and filters. I just never want to get caught up in that trap," she shared, adding, "I still have fun, but I don't want to look like anybody else. I want to look like me." As the star of the 2024 film "The Last Showgirl," Anderson rocked makeup looks again, but off-screen she continues her minimalist approach to beauty trends.
Pamela Anderson isn't the only Hollywood legend who opted to show off her natural face. In fact, she is in great company, as numerous celebs over 50 went without makeup on social media where they flaunted their natural beauty.
