Since "Wednesday" premiered on Netflix in 2022, the show's leading ladies have given us plenty of examples of how fun gothic fashion and beauty can be. In fact, looking at the Addams Family across eras and comparing Netflix's leading ladies and the 1960s OGs shows that while some aspects of their signature looks remained, others have changed. While Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Co. stun on the screen, in real life they are quite different from the moody characters they portray.

Speaking to Teen Vogue in 2022, the show's hair and makeup artist Tara McDonald revealed, "Wednesday's [main] look is certainly my favorite. This is the first time a new generation was going to meet Wednesday and to meet her as a teenager because she has always been a child before." The artist added that the character isn't a lover of makeup, adding, "I was trying to find a way to make her look iconic with as little makeup as possible." The beauty, hair, and makeup department on the Tim Burton show has done a fabulous job thus far, showcasing just how much of a difference the three can make when it comes to creating unique characters. Then there are also the actors, who are fashion and beauty icons on their own outside the show.

Jenna Ortega has embraced some of the gothic Wednesday Addams' aesthetic IRL

Through the years, we've seen plenty of method dressing, the thematic red carpet trend that took over Hollywood. Jenna Ortega, who portrays the titular character Wednesday Addams in the Netflix hit series, has explored the trend on numerous occasions, rocking gothic-inspired fashion and beauty. Back in 2021, Ortega admitted that playing the character influenced her aesthetic, telling InStyle, "I do think that Wednesday changed my taste a lot. I have a hard time getting her off of me, at least clothing-wise" (via Glamour). The cult character's style certainly played a role in the fashion evolution of Jenna Ortega.

Makeup-wise, Ortega definitely experiments more than her character, as Wednesday is known for embracing her under-eye circles and natural paleness. The actor, on the other hand, loves a grungy eye look or adding color to her face with blush. The blush hack that Jenna Ortega's makeup artist swears by creates a beautifully natural look. However, while Ortega's makeup might appear intricate, the actor told Elle in 2025 that she is actually a makeup minimalist — similar to Wednesday. "Sometimes my make-up looks like more because of my eyeliner, but it takes me five minutes. It's not busy, I don't worry about it too much. It's not about trying to appear a certain way, it's just for fun."

Side-by-side pics of the actor as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series and at the 2026 Actor Awards perfectly showcase both their similarities and differences. While Ortega loves delicate fashion and eyeliner, the actor still exudes some of that gothic mysteriousness that Wednesday is so well known for.

Emma Myers' style isn't as quirky as Enid Sinclair's

Emma Myers portrays the bubbly Enid Sinclair on "Wednesday," but privately, the actor has admitted that she is nothing like her on-screen character. "I don't really think I'm like Enid at all, to be honest," she told People in 2025. "Goodness, what do I have in common with her? I don't dress like her. I'm not very bubbly. We're not the same at all." The actor admitted that the only commonality she has with Enid is her confidence. "I've grown into myself a bit more recently. I'm a bit more confident, I'll say that."

Unlike Enid, whose hair is usually platinum blond with colorful rainbow highlights, the actor's locks are brown, most often cut in a modern shag hairstyle. And while Enid's quirky fashion sense has won the hearts of many, comfort is key for the actor when she isn't at industry events. "I don't like being uncomfortable. I feel like I wear stuff for work that's put together, so that when I'm not at work, I just want to be as loose as possible," Myers shared with People.

Catherine Zeta-Jones' dark hair and smoky eyes are the perfect Morticia Addams look

Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones has been known for her striking beauty for decades. The actor, who plays the iconic Morticia Addams, certainly steals the show from anyone she shares the screen with on "Wednesday." "Look, there's nothing better than being part of a successful show and being able to play such an iconic character, and somehow make her your own," she gushed to Red in 2025. "[In] the Addams family, we embrace our weirdness, we encourage our quirkiness, we cajole our differences, we never quash them. We run right out and expose them. I think it's a very modern way of living."

In her late 50s, Zeta-Jones looks as fabulous as ever. Over the years, the actor has become known for her signature makeup look, usually involving heavy eye makeup and neutral lips. "I practically came out of the womb wearing make-up," she revealed to The Independent in 2021. "I have loved it for as long as I can remember. My mother wouldn't take the bin to the curb without her face done." The actor admitted she learned a lot about makeup thanks to her profession. "I've also, in my career, had the privilege of working with some of the greatest make-up artists, and trying every possible product," she shared.

Side-by-side pics of Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and at the premiere of her Amazon Prime series "Kill Jackie" in 2026 show that apart from the dark lips, the actor does look rather similar to the character. Of course, Morticia prefers darker colors, be it her makeup or clothing, but Zeta Jones' long dark hair and dramatic smoky eye definitely have a certain Addams Family aesthetic to them.

Gwendoline Christie's approach to fashion and beauty is just as refined as Principal Larissa Weems'

For Gwendoline Christie, "Wednesday" played a crucial role in her career, as the actor admitted that the show provided a first for her. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2022, the actor shared that she felt beautiful while playing Larissa Weems in the series. "It is the first time I've ever felt beautiful on screen," she revealed, adding, "I cannot express my extreme gratitude more heartily to Tim [Burton, director] and Colleen [Atwood, costume designer] and our hair and makeup team. Colleen Atwood is rightfully a legend, and what she does is close to witchcraft in terms of transformation. It is an honor of my life to work with Colleen and to work with Tim."

Similar to her Netflix character, Christie also loves embracing daring silhouettes and having fun with fashion. "When I was growing up, I was always obsessed with fashion," she told Vogue in 2023. What's more, they both look fabulous with structured shoulders and delicate old Hollywood makeup.

Joy Sunday shares Bianca Barclay's love for colorful makeup

Joy Sunday has consistently taken our breath away on "Wednesday" as the breathtaking siren Bianca Barclay. "The Bianca that I met when I first got the script versus who she is now — there's such a difference," the actor told Glamour in 2025, adding, "In season one, she's kind of built a wall and acts as if she doesn't need anything. But now we get to understand ... the vulnerability and insecurities that she's facing." The actor also admitted that sharing the screen with one of her idols was an incredible dream come true. "Catherine Zeta-Jones was the first actress I ever wanted to be. It was wild going into Season One and being like, 'Oh, yeah, I get to work with her,'" she added.

Sunday revealed to Cosmopolitan in 2024 that the Netflix hit ignited her love for makeup. "I didn't really start getting familiar with makeup until the past couple of years, starting with the Wednesday press run," she revealed. And just like Bianca, Sunday also adores bright colors, sharing, "I've always dressed that way and my makeup has become an extension of my clothing, which I think is quite fun and playful, I like to have makeup that reflects that." Speaking to People in 2025, she shared that lip makeup is her favorite. "I'm always going to be a lip girl ... If I have nothing else on my face, the lip gloss is going to lift me for the day." Pics of Bianca Barclay in the series and Sunday posing during Paris Fashion Week in 2026 showcase that the actor's face card is absolutely lethal, so it's not surprising that she can pull off a variety of different makeup looks.
