Bedazzling has been a major trend in 2026, with many adding rhinestones to their fashion and accessories, and beauty and makeup brands even going as far as bedazzling their products for social media promotion. And now, soon-to-be mothers are hopping on the whimsymaxxing trend. Pictures of bedazzled baby bumps are the newest social media trend, providing a fun alternative to the classic maternity photoshoot. And while Demi Moore's 1991 Vanity Fair cover was the blueprint for modern maternity photos, spicing them up with jewels is a nostalgic trend that helps ease the stress around what maternity photoshoots have turned into. After all, nobody who is pregnant should be stressing about a photoshoot, but should instead be celebrating their pregnancy journey.

"Using a $10 rhinestone kit I ordered from Amazon, my friends began arranging colorful gems across my exposed belly ... The tiny crystals scattered little rainbows across the wall, turning my very pregnant stomach into something between a disco ball and a suncatcher," journalist Brittany Anas wrote for Yahoo! in October 2026, revealing that the trend allowed her to showcase her pregnancy in a fun way without too much hassle. "Bedazzling my belly gave me a chance to pause and enjoy exactly where I was," she explained, adding, "Rather than wishing away the aches and impatience of the ninth month, I could laugh with my friends and appreciate the body that had carried my baby this far." Besides, if there's one takeaway from the pregnant ladies of Hollywood who weren't afraid to show off their baby bumps, it's that accentuating your pregnant belly will look amazing no matter what.

Is bedazzling your baby bump safe? Here's what to consider

Nostalgic ways to embrace the Y2K aesthetic are still on the rise, and this trend fits perfectly into it. Covering your belly with gem stickers creates a unique design, one that is immortalized in the photos you take. The best part about a bedazzled baby bump? It's an inexpensive way to have some fun with your maternity photos, and having someone close to you take the pics is all you need. In fact, an amateur photographer works best with this style, as it also adds that nostalgic early-aughts element to the pics.

But, is sticking gems onto your belly safe? For most, it is, especially considering that they will be on your skin for a limited amount of time. However, TikToker Kaitlyn Scott, who has done the trend herself, advises being careful, as having a reaction to the glue can happen. "Choose skin-safe, non-irritating adhesives and test a small patch of skin first," she shared on TikTok, adding that you should limit how long you wear the rhinestones on your belly.

And for those who don't have a pregnancy belly, there are other ways to have fun with gems, whether you opt for gluing rhinestones to your falsies or using rhinestones to bring bling to your manicure.
