As many of you may already know Mariah Carey a.k.a ‘My Mimi’ and yours truly are close friends. We first met when I interviewed MC in her dressing room after her Las Vegas concert in 2009 (which was arranged by her husband Nick Cannon after he randomly starting tweeting me one day a couple of weeks prior to our interview). We instantly clicked and as they say, the rest is history. So naturally, I attended the splendiferously divine princess ceremony that shut down Disneyland where Carey and Cannon renewed their wedding vows in honor of their fifth wedding anniversary and celebrated the second birthday of their twins, ‘Dem Babies’ Moroccan and Monroe.
Here’s a quick summary of the magical night: Carey and daughter Monroe got ready for the ceremony at the Dream Suite, an exclusive hotel room located above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Both wearing white princess-inspired gowns, Carey (dressed as Cinderella) and Monroe rode in a Cinderella-style horse-drawn carriage to Main Street where Cannon and Moroccan, both dressed as Prince Charming were anxiously awaiting.
The couple and ‘Dem Babies’ walked down the aisle to the front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle, which was decorated with 15,000 flowers imported from South Africa, Holland and France, and 10,000 crystals. Cinderella's Royal Footman officiated the ceremony (attended by 250 guests including Debbie Allen, Holly Robinson Peete, Luenell, Stephen Hill, Tamar Braxton, and Vince Herbert) which concluded with a spectacular fireworks display.
Then the guests were escorted to Fantasyland for the reception. Cannon DJ'd the event, playing old school hip-hop intermixed with Mariah’s numerous hits and later guests rode the Matterhorn Bobsleds, the King Arthur Carousel, Peter Pan's Flight and Snow White's Scary Adventures. At the end of the night, the glass carriage whisked the happy couple away back to the Dream Suite.
Before the wedding renewal ceremony, ‘Dem Babies’ Monroe and Moroccan celebrated their second birthday at the Fantasy Faire section of the park with 150 guests. The highlight of their birthday celebration was when Carey gave her daughter Monroe the microphone and she sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to everyone’s delight!
The Cannons have renewed their vows every year since getting married. After dating almost two months they were married in the Bahamas in 2008. They first re-wed in the Maldives in 2009, then at their Beverly Hills home in 2010, in the hospital in 2011 (Carey had just birthed their two twins), and at the Eiffel Tower in 2012.
Speaking of ‘beautiful’, Mariah has just released “#Beautiful”, her brand new single both co-written by and featuring Miguel. I knew from the moment she played it for me that it was an undeniable hit and should be the first single from her forthcoming album. The song is receiving stellar reviews across major publications and media outlets, further adding to Carey’s already fairy-tale life.
