Tom Ford isn't the only designer label that Jay Z rocks.
Mr. Magna Carta is teaming up with Barneys New York for a huge holiday collaboration that will put him in design rooms with Balenciaga, Balmain, Moncler, and more. The result: the Barneys New York-Shawn Corey CarterGallery that “demonstrates how inspiring New York has been,” to Jay’s life and career.
A followup to Lady Gaga's Workshop in 2011 and Disney's Electric Holiday in 2012, Barneys New York Holiday is an ode to “the slickness, energy, and innovation of New York City,” as noted in Women's Wear Daily. Jay’s aim in the launch is to “translate [that feeling] into quality, timeless pieces” that will represent the empire state of mind for years to come.
On November 20, the Madison Avenue mainstay will open up the 1,500-square-foot store-within-a-store, where artful installations and multimedia components will meld with Jay's post-Rocawear design debut.
Unlike Barneys’ past holiday pop-ups, this one will be built specifically with the male customer in mind. Aside from housing Proenza Schouler's first bag for men, the BNY SCC Gallery will boast a tailored jacket from Lanvin, a cashmere ski mask by The Elder Statesmen, and a $33,900 Shawn Carter by Hublot watch—all of which us ladies are sure to borrow from the boys. In tune with Jay’s own aesthetic and the NYC skyline, the range will follow a palette of white, black, silver, and gold.
The BNY SCC Gallery will bow on November 20 and run into the New Year with a January 3 closing date. With 25-percent of sales benefiting the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, it gives us plenty of time and reason to get Carter.
