Little by little designers are making it known how unhappy they are with the way the New York Fashion Week is being handled. Last September, Oscar de la Rentaslashed the amount of people that were invited to his show by half.
“Why have 20 million people with zero connection to the clothes,” he told Women’s Wear Daily. Why, indeed seems to be the question on lips. Though, Vera Wang has already taken major step to skip the zoo that Lincoln Center has become—IMG Fashion’s Catherine Bennett’swords, not ours—she isn’t the only one!
“The space,” Mrs. Herrera told the Times, had “gotten too commercial, too much like a trade show,” making it seem like she would be also presenting her Fall/Winter 2014 off-site come February. For Packham, next season seemed just as good as any to make the big move. She will keep her same 1pm Tuesday time slot, though.
“I am grateful for all of the support IMG have given us and look forward to continuing our relationship as a District Associate of MBFW,” the British designer said in a press release. “The American market is hugely important to us and I feel at home here. It feels like the right time to move off site and I look forward to launching my AW14 collection in a more exclusive setting with a fresh dynamic show this February.”
Times are a’changin’! We’re excited to be at Fashion Week as all the updates go down and will be sure to keep you abreast with the latest.
