Jason Wu’s Lancome Collection Will Debut at Fashion Week
Jason Wu set every beauty buff's heart aflutter when he announced his collaboration with Lancôme, and now in September we'll finally get our hands on the glam goods!
The 15-piece collection, which includes a navy mascara, red lipsticks in various shades, three eye shadow palettes, and even nail polish – packaged in his signature dove gray hue. Glam got a peek of what he had up his sleeve for the collection backstage at his Fall 2013 show that we couldn’t wait to share. There will even be transparent lace makeup bags to tout the new beauty toys around in. “Every little detail has been customized and designed for this collaboration, so it feels very special and complete,” Wu told Women’s Wear Daily. “I think it will stand out on the beauty floor because I don’t think anyone else is using gray for their collection right now. I think the packaging part is as special as what’s inside.”
The recently named artistic director of Hugo Boss has always believed beauty was a big element that could amp up an ensemble, even adding hair and makeup looks to the Barbies he cut his teeth on in his early years. “I think makeup is one of the closest parts to fashion — it goes hand in hand in almost every single case,” he said. “When you have great hair and makeup, it brings out the clothes even more. This project feels very organic to me and is one of my favorite collaborations that I’ve ever done. In so many ways Lancôme shares a lot of the same DNA as my brand — it’s feminine and there’s something quite classic about it that never gets old. I see those qualities within my own designs.”
Though it may be a limited edition collection, the multitasking talent (remember he also has a candle with Nest) already has his next season ready for Lancôme, which has the potential to spread beyond the current collection’s locations. The fall selections are an exclusive to Nordstrom stores nationwide and Bergdorf Goodman in New York. “I’ve always been a multitasker,” Wu said. “I don’t know to do it any other way. I don’t think I could be quiet or sit still for a minute. These projects keep me energized and one influences the next to the next — it’s this creative process that makes my job really fun. I’ve always thought that my abilities as a designer go further than clothes. I feel like if you can design beautiful things, you can apply that ethos to anything you design.”
