'80s Star Soleil Moon Frye's Best Style Moments In Her 40s

Believe it or not, Soleil Moon Frye turned 50 on August 6, 2026. As one of the '80s stars who grew up to be gorgeous, Frye became a familiar face thanks to her role as Punky in "Punky Brewster," which aired from 1984 to 1988. "Punky is still such a huge part of my heart and soul," Frye told People in March 2021. "If I'm 88 and people still want to call me Punky, I'd be thrilled."

Although playing Punky may be the thing for which Frye is best known, over the years, she's appeared in other series, including "Saved by the Bell" and "Friends. She's also gotten married and had four kids (to no surprise, Soleil Moon Frye's daughters look so much like their famous mom). Frye has also had quite the style evolution since her days as Punky Brewster and being a teen star in the 1990s. "I immediately think of the scary clothes that I wore," Frye told Parade in August 2011 about her memories of that era. "Catsuits were big for me in the '90s, and I had many of them... I remember wearing a skintight bright cherry-red dress to my Sweet 16 party, and none of my friends told me I looked out of sight!"

With catsuits in the rearview mirror, Frye has had more than a few fabulous fashion occasions. From never surrendering her Doc Marten boots to the best way to style a chic blazer, Frye has slayed so many looks. In other words, her 40s were full of memorable style moments.

Soleil Moon Frye proving head-to-toe leather is always a good idea

In January 2020, Soleil Moon Frye attended the CORE Gala in Los Angeles and rocked a strapless black leather top and matching black leather pants, a sign that the edgy leather-everything trend we saw in 2023 had been making the rounds for a while. Frye completed her look with black peep-toe heels and minimal jewelry — after all, leather is already a lot, so there's no sense in getting carried away with accessories. With her long hair parted on the side and pin-straight, Frye looked equal parts cool and minxy for the gala.

Soleil Moon Frye showcasing her '90's energy at a holiday party

One of the cool things about people who were teenagers in the 1990s is that they never really shake the trends of the decade from their bones. In October 2019, Soleil Moon Frye attended "It's a Wonderful Lifetime" holiday party looking like she'd just been plucked out of 1995. Wearing a red bandage dress, a style that was huge in the 1990s, a black leather jacket, and black Doc Marten boots, Frye was the epitome of not just the decade, but her generation. With a forever-iconic red lipstick, Frye's entire look was flawless.

Soleil Moon Frye bringing Christian Louboutin along for fun

When Soleil Moon Frye attended the A Sense of Home Gala in October 2025, she not only wore a perfect LBD, proving there's one no matter your style, but she also completed her outfit with black platform Christian Louboutin boots. Frye matched her clutch to the rest of her ensemble and kept her makeup on the lighter side, giving her a refreshing glow. In the past, Frye had been a spokesperson for skincare brand Weleda, so it's pretty clear that having great skin and advocating for it in others has been part of her momtrepreneur journey.

In June 2022, Soleil Moon Frye attended the CORE Gala in Hollywood and slayed the shirtless blazer look. Pairing the black blazer with fitted black pants and black sandals, Frye looked elegant, sophisticated, and gorgeous. As one of the '80s child stars who are practically unrecognizable now, Frye hit puberty and grew breasts early, bringing the actor so much unwanted attention that she got a breast reduction. It took her a long time to be comfortable in her skin, so Frye rocking this look is a testament to how far she's come in her body acceptance.

Soleil Moon Frye looking stunning in a red gown

When Soleil Moon Frye attended the Baby2Baby Gala in November 2017, she stepped away from her usual mostly-black attire. Opting for a one-shoulder red dress (after all, the little red dress is the new LBD), Frye looked absolutely breathtaking and almost angelic thanks to the layers of sheer chiffon. Although she resisted the urge to wear black to the event, her nails are still black, which seems to be her go-to manicure color. She wisely left the jewelry and other accessories at home so all eyes could be on the gown.

In November 2019, Soleil Moon Frye was photographed out and about in Los Angeles. Despite not being on a red carpet, she still brought her fashion A-game to the sidewalk with an oversized black coat, a black slouchy hat, black Doc Marten boots, jeans, and a large black bag. In fact, Frye is giving major Olsen twins vibes here (or at least how they dressed in this early aughts) — she's just missing the Starbucks cup and a cigarette.

Soleil Moon Frye taking the playful route with this dress

When Soleil Moon Frye attended the inaugural Children and Family Emmy Awards in December 2022, she opted for something with a little whimsy. Wearing a black strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline and a skirt made of what appears to be tulle, along with black heels with bows at the ankles, Frye looked ready to celebrate. As she said in her Instagram post, she was at the event to honor "The Proud Family" and "Punky Brewster." Based on this 'fit, it's safe to say little Punky would be proud of grown-up Punky's fashion sense.

Soleil Moon Frye giving a shout out to Frida Kahlo

In September 2025, Soleil Moon Frye posted a photo on Instagram of herself with two friends. Although her friends are dressed fairly conservatively, it's Frye's T-shirt, featuring a colorful depiction of artist Frida Kahlo, that stands out. Not only is Kahlo a celebrity who married the same person twice, but she's also one of the most important and prolific artists of the 20th century. Frye completed her outfit with baggy pants and Doc Martens, proving again that you can take the girl out of the 1990s, but you can never take the 1990s out of the girl.
